Two weeks ago I did a handgun familiarization class for a lady who had almost no fi****ms experience and no handgun experience. Her goal was to obtain a carry permit for a very valid threat she faces. That class is about four hours long. Today she attended our carry permit class and she was one of the better shooters in the class. And she purchased my book on drills and courses for improving your performance. She displays motivation and a willingness to learn, so I’m very confident that if she is faced with a threat, she is going to be just fine.

Hybrid holsters. I don’t recommend them.

A member of P&S - Primary & Secondary posted this today:

"I can admit when I was wrong, and man I was wrong. I am sorry.

Early on in this group I held the belief, and argued on behalf of that belief, that hybrid holsters were fine for normal, everyday concealed carry. I had explained that mine was worn every day for 5 years with very little wear and still had good retention. Well, today, almost at year 6, it failed exactly as those people here told me it would fail. If I hadn’t have caught it, it would have fired a round potentially through my right leg. Nothing on the holster was broken or defective, and the screws were still tight..yet the backing material flexed (and yes, it had a ‘steel insertion’ to prevent flex) so that retention was lost and the trigger could move. You, my more knowledgeable peers in this group, were right, and my dumba*s was wrong. Please feel free to share this amongst other groups. And to those still using hybrid holsters please, for your safety and others, stop. It might be fine now, but it will fail and it will fail very suddenly. Yesterday the holster was just fine, and today it wasn’t. It was that fast."

Otsego Man Charged with Felony After Allegedly Accidentally Firing Gun into Neighbor's Occupied Home

OTSEGO, Minn. – An Otsego man is facing a felony charge after he allegedly discharged a firearm inside his home, sending a bullet into a neighboring house that was occupied by a family of four.

Nelson, 23, was charged in Wright County District Court with one count of reckless discharge of a firearm within a municipality.

According to the criminal complaint, deputies were dispatched to a residence on 74th Street NE on the morning of September 27, 2025, for a report of a firearm being discharged. Upon arrival, officers learned that Nelson had been handling a gun in his living room when a round was fired.

The complaint states that Nelson told authorities he had taken the gun out of a lock box to show his mother how to use it. He said he removed the magazine and, believing the weapon was unloaded, "dry fired" it. However, a bullet was still in the chamber and discharged when he pulled the trigger.

The bullet traveled through a wall of Nelson's home and struck a neighboring house. Deputies investigating the scene observed an exit hole at Nelson's residence and a corresponding entry hole in the siding of the adjacent home. The residents of the second home—a husband, wife, and their two sons—were all present at the time of the incident. They told police they heard a loud noise but were unaware their house had been hit.

Investigators determined the bullet entered the floor joist area between the first and second levels of the neighboring home. No injuries were reported.

If convicted, the felony charge carries a maximum penalty of two years in prison and a $5,000 fine. Nelson was issued a summons to appear in court.
