The Clover Bend Historic District is the site of a successful attempt to combat the socioeconomic problems of the Great Depression era during the first and second administrations of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Although never incorporated into a town or a city, Clover Bend is the oldest settlement in Lawrence County. This area is rich with history, depicting stories of trials, successes, and fame. Clover Bend has always thrived on the contributions of its people. At one time, Clover Bend was called the FSA’s most successful project in Arkansas; an outstanding example of a prosperous public works project to aid impoverished rural Americans.

The Clover Bend Schools were established as a consolidation of schools in the surrounding 20 miles in January 1938. When the school closed in 1983 and consolidated with Hoxie, the Clover Bend Historic District was born. It was comprised of a main building, a gymnasium, a cafeteria, a cottage devoted to vocational home economics, and a vocational agriculture building. It was listed in the National Register of Historic Places on September 17, 1990. Today, a farm house, barn, chicken house, smokehouse, and an outdoor bathroom have been added to the thirteen-acre site to recreate the FSA appearance. Some of these buildings can now be rented for wide range of events, including but not limited to weddings, family reunions, and showers.

As you are aware, we have moved the reunion to every other year with our next one being in 2027. With the upcoming classes being smaller in size, it just made more financial sense to combine them and have one big reunion. However, donations are still needed for the day to day operations of this historical district. Since we had so much success with the Mail-A-Thon in 2023, we have decided to do this to offset the reunion rotation. We are excited to offer this option this year to those who love these facilities and support it each year.

The upkeep of the Historic Site is funded solely on donations. As a facility that doesn’t have a constant inflow of funds, these donations are crucial in preserving this special piece of history. It is evident how close the community of Lawrence County is with the success stories of this site. We are asking that you come together, once more, to help keep the history and integrity of these buildings intact. As a 501c3 organization, all donations are tax deductible and a receipt will be mailed upon receiving the donation.
We encourage checks, but any form of monetary donation will be accepted. Electronic donations can be sent via PayPal to mailto:[email protected].

Checks can be mailed to:

🚜🌾 Ag Expo Prep Day is Underway! 🌾🚜

The Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce, Randolph County Chamber of Commerce, and the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service are hard at work today preparing for tomorrow’s Agricultural Appreciation Expo at the beautiful Clover Bend Historic District.

Tables are being set. Signage is going up. Vendors are getting ready. And behind the scenes, a lot of hands are working together to make sure this event honors the backbone of our region — agriculture.

Events like this don’t happen without collaboration. It takes chambers, extension agents, sponsors, volunteers, and community leaders all pulling in the same direction to create something meaningful for our farmers, producers, agribusinesses, and families.

We can’t wait to welcome everyone tomorrow for a day focused on appreciation, education, and connection.

If you’re in Lawrence or Randolph County, we hope you’ll join us at Clover Bend!

🌱 See you at the Expo!

Stop by tomorrow and check it out!
