Artificial turf offers a low-maintenance solution compared to conventional grass, which can be a game-changer for homeowners, sports teams, and facility managers who want to reduce their lawn care expenses and save time. It withstands heavy foot traffic, making it an ideal option for areas with high usage, such as sports fields, playgrounds, and commercial properties. Moreover, the turf requires minimal upkeep, eliminating the need for frequent watering, mowing, and fertilizing. Furthermore, the turf maintains its green appearance throughout the year, regardless of the weather conditions, ensuring a lush and vibrant look that enhances the aesthetic appeal of any outdoor space. This means you can enjoy a beautiful and functional outdoor area without the hassle and expense of natural grass maintenance.

Dry creek beds are a fantastic solution for controlling water in the backyard, as they not only help to direct excess water away from your home's foundation but also add a unique and visually appealing element to your outdoor space. By incorporating stone and plant material in a creative way, you can transform a once-barren area into a beautiful and functional feature that enhances the overall aesthetic of your yard. Plus, dry creek beds are low maintenance and can thrive in a variety of climates, making them an ideal option for homeowners looking to create a stunning outdoor oasis. www.elmonline.com

Beautiful Rain Garden Installation in Bayport, MN

Leveraging our advanced equipment, expert team, and efficient operators, we completed the project under budget and ahead of schedule, delighting the client and stakeholders.

The rain garden’s primary goal is to capture sediment and pollutants while maximizing water infiltration. This process allows soil to naturally filter contaminants before they reach the groundwater, preventing runoff from carrying pollutants into the nearby St. Croix River.

We were the low bidder this spring for this Rain Garden designed by Washington County. We were able to keep the cost low because of our equipment, expertise, and due to having very efficient operators. The project came in slightly under the projected hours and everyone was very pleased with the results!

The objective here is to trap the sediment/pollution and encourage maximum water infiltration. By getting water to infiltrate we can allow the soil to filter contaminants before they reach the water table below. If the water simply washes down the street it picks up pollutants that make their way into the St. Croix River.

I improved upon the plan by using Natural Stone instead of loose 1' x 1' blocks for the Sediment Trap (as proposed by Washington County). The Stone is well anchored into the soil. We used permeable Clay Pavers for the bottom of the Sediment Trap.

There's a Storm Drain that empties a lot of water and sediment into the rain garden and my thinking was the proposed blocks could be displaced much easier by a heavy rush of water. The Stone held up great and trapped most of the sediment. The Stone we used ended up being a taller barrier than the blocks would have been (making for a more effective trap).

Along the Curb the plan was to install a berm of raised soil with fabric, topped with Rip Rap. I didn't like the idea of the Rip Rap getting all clogged up with Sediment so we installed a wall of Stone along the Curb, with a narrow stretch of Rip Rap in between the Curb and Stone. This keeps the Rip Rap clean and is a more effective barrier to dam the water.

I also installed Stone Steps down to the Sediment Trap instead of the proposed Rip Rap barrier. The thinking here is to make it much easier for the City of Bayport to clean up the sediment periodically.

I improved on the planting plan by installing 64 plugs of Fox Sedge to cover the basin bottom more quickly than less than half the number of 1 gallon potted plants (that were proposed). As you can see from the pictures over the summer the Fox Sedge established very quickly. The plugs were cheaper than the 1 gallon pots, allowing us to use more plants and fill the area in much faster.

I also re-planted some Joe Pye W**d that was leftover from the previous rain garden. There is Blue Flag Iris in there as well.

Furthermore, I included seed in a few groupings of specific wildflower species that should begin to show up next year. The Church loved the idea of adding more diversity into the planting.

The final improvement was to replace the mulch that was in the plan with Biodegradable Erosion Blanket. I'm glad we did this because the mulch would have definitely washed away!

Here is a project I designed for Ciranda in downtown Hudson last year. We installed it in May and the plants filled in pretty well so far. We seeded the Southeast corner bed to establish prairie instead of the Gro Low Sumac that is pictured in the bed on the plan.

Feel free to walk through this growing season if you're in the area.

Give us a call or email if you're interested in a design or quote.

Thanks!
