What is St. Frances Academy—
St Frances Academy started in June 1828 when Mother Mary Lange established a school to provide a “Christian education to colored children” in her home in Fells Point. 195 years later, SFA offers a college preparatory curriculum with low tuition and generous financial aid to its students from grades 9-12. St Frances is independently owned and operated by the Roman Catholic religious order of the Oblate Sisters of Providence and does not receive any assistance from the Archdiocese or the State of Maryland. The school is a beacon of hope in a city of uncertainty and works hard to provide a setting for students to love learning, have compassion for the poor, be stewardships of God’s creation, and a passion for peace and justice.
SFA by the numbers…
-89% of students receive financial assistance
-99% acceptance to colleges, including top tier universities
-Students from 54 feeder schools and 82 zip codes
-230 total enrollment
-15:1 student-teacher ratio
-33% of faculty are alumni
-Relevant and enriching curriculum
-Involved in community service, a dual enrollment program with University of Baltimore
-Offers 6 sports and 12 extracurricular activities
Why BOMA Baltimore volunteers—
St Frances Academy is the most economical Catholic school in the area! Tuition is just under 10k but actually costs around 13k per student. The students are awarded 1.2M in financial aid and over 50% are on a free and reduced lunch program. BOMA hopes to assist SFA in providing a well-maintained, safe, and properly equipped facility. In choosing to invest in these scholars, BOMA members are transforming lives and providing opportunity while also fostering positive change for Baltimore!
