Today we celebrate the long awaited emancipation of the enslaved people of our country, it had been passed long before but it took until June of 19, for the federal government to reach Texas, the last state in which enslavement had continued. That day Maj. Gen. Gordon Granger read the federal order to the people of Galveston, TX.

I wish we could say that was the end of the enslavement of such a beautiful people in our country. But it was a beginning...may we still strive to learn, love and live better.
