MODERN 3D PRINTED RESIN PARTS - DROP TEST
I conducted an informal drop test to show how sturdy modern 3D printed parts are. The latest material is an "engineering" resin, which is strong and somewhat flexible, but does not yield the highest resolution in the printed part. Also very new, from the same source, on the same printer, is a "detail" or "modeling" resin that is also quite sturdy, but yields better resolution (down to about 25 microns).
I dropped three parts from waist height onto a tile floor. The unedited video is below.
First drop, is a pen barrel in the engineering resin.
Second drop, is a larger pen barrel, also in the engineering resin.
Third drop, one of my pen caps, in the detail resin. In the very last frames, after I pick up the undamaged cap, you can see how thin the cap is - light shines thru it from the back.

Artcraft Pens introduced a completely new pen at the recent Atlanta Pen Show - the Spiral lineup includes six different colors, pocket or shirt clipped versions, and fountain pen or rollerball options.
The colors include: Stoplight Red, Deep Blue, Black Cherry, Teal, Gold, and Black.
The fountain pen nib is a #5 from Schmidt in Germany, and the rollerball includes a Schmidt refill. The pen uses standard international ink cartridges and includes a Schmidt converter to enable the use of bottled ink.
The Spiral design offers both visual and tactile attraction, and the price is right...under $100 USD.

I am often asked, "What's next?" I've been working on a completely new pen design, a slim pen, an alternative to my current larger diameter pens. In the process, I am striving to give the pen a visually engaging appearance along with a very practical size for smaller hands, or for those who simply enjoy a smaller grip.

I am in the late prototype stage; my first "Slim Line" pen combines vintage "slip cap" styling with the classic Art Deco "Empire" pattern. I hope to have this pen ready to produce in a month or so.
