Yesterday I launched the first Learning Lab on Leadership — and what a strong start.

Twelve thoughtful professionals showed up ready to stretch their leadership muscles, reflect honestly, and lean into real conversation.
We explored what it means to lead from the inside out by digging in to the book "Developing the Leader Within, 2.0" by John John C. Maxwell. Here's a recap of the values we tackled through real-world scenarios:

1. Influence: Who am I influencing right now
2. Priorities: What truly matters most?
3. Character: Does this align with my character?
4. Creating Positive Change: What needs to shift?
5. Problem Solving: What is the real problem?
6. Attitude: What attitude am I choosing?
7. Serving People: Who does this serve?
8. Vision: What future am I building?
9. Self-Discipline: What must I manage in myself?
10. Personal Growth: What is this teaching me?

This pilot cohort helped shape what will become a monthly Learning Lab designed for anyone within our community who is seeking ways to grow and develop as a leader, whether they are leading a team right now or not. I want the labs to be an option for self-development comparable to other leadership programs within our community in terms of quality, but not in terms of accessibility.

Huntsville is full of extraordinary technical talent. I’m excited to help create intentional space for leadership development and meaningful connection alongside it.

"I am safe. It’s only change."
— Louise Hay

These simple words have carried me through some of the hardest seasons of my life. They remind me that even when the ground shifts beneath me, I can still choose to stand in my truth.

Starting my consulting company, Integral Path, was not a leap—it was a climb. A climb through years of doubt, dismissal, and disillusionment… through workplaces that valued appearances over ethics, hierarchy over humanity.

I’ve been the HR leader who was told to stay silent while others broke the rules.
I’ve been the woman who was told she wasn’t “a people person” by someone who saw her strength as a threat.
I’ve been lied about, underestimated, and even stalked…
And I’ve come out stronger.

But here’s the thing:
I didn’t just survive—I grew.

It took years. It took prayer. It took mentors like Louise Hay, whose wisdom whispered, “You are safe. It’s only change.”
And now, I’m changing everything.

✨ I’m building a business rooted in integrity, not ego.

As a solopreneur just starting out, I met with a longtime friend yesterday—a fellow business owner I’ve known for 10 years—thinking we could reconnect and support each other.

Instead, I was hit with a venomous attack:

“You’ve never run a business before—what do you know about business?”
“You don’t understand culture—how could you understand my business culture?”
“Your profile photo doesn’t even look like you. You should show people your true self.”

Needless to say, I woke up emotionally raw today. And as an introvert who’s been networking my heart out these last two months, I was already depleted.

But here’s the thing:
That wasn’t feedback. That was emotional abuse disguised as “honesty.”
And that oppressive weight I woke up with? That’s not me. That’s the echo of cruelty trying to take up residence in my spirit.

I’m not going to let it.

Instead:

· I’m reminding myself that I am a mirror—and some people can’t stand their own reflection when they see clarity, kindness, and courage shining back.
· I’m ending that friendship. Ten years or not, I’ve drawn a boundary. My worth is not up for debate.

And here’s the part that connects deeply with the work I do:
In the workplace, when this happens in a 1:1 with your boss, in the conference room, or in a performance review, it’s not so easy to just “block” the person and move on. Instead, you’re forced to course correct—usually while short on energy, confidence, and support.

Sometimes people say things that seem small on the surface but hit like a truck:
“That’s not your lane.”
“You’re too emotional for leadership.”
These aren’t just comments—they’re cuts. And they often come when we’re already trying to hold it together.

What I was given yesterday wasn’t feedback – it was control. It wasn’t “honesty” – it was erasure. And also—and most importantly—it wasn’t my fault, it was their issue.

From this experience, I’ve developed a new coaching tool:
The Inner Voice Audit:
Write down 3 things someone has said to you at work that made you shrink.
Then ask:
· Whose voice was that?
· Was it true, kind, or helpful?
· What part of me took that voice in as fact?
· What truth would I rather live by?
I’ve used this exercise on myself, and I’m reframing yesterday’s narrative. Here’s my new story:

“Someone told me I didn’t look like myself in my own picture. That voice wanted to erase me. My truth? I’ve earned every part of who I am today—including the woman in that photo who built her business from scratch and shows up even when she’s wounded.”

As a sailor, a woman of faith, and a “wounded healer,” I’ve navigated my share of storms. And I’ve learned this: there’s something higher than your critical voice—and something sacred happens when you honor your path and show up, even in pain.

Just back from and the message is loud and clear:
We are the eagles in this storm. 🦅

In just five years, we've navigated a global pandemic, pioneered remote work, survived the Great Resignation and "quiet quitting," mourned the rollback of DEI, and witnessed the slow unraveling of the public workforce.

And yet—we rise.
Not by clinging to comfort, but by leading with courage, clarity, and compassion.

As HR professionals, we are not just ready for what's next.
We are what’s next.
