Join us for Grow Your Business / Crece Tu Negocio – Huron, a free bilingual workshop happening Tuesday, April 23 from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM at the Huron Event Center.

This hands-on evening is designed to help entrepreneurs learn practical tools to improve their business in areas like marketing, human resources, banking, accounting, insurance, and business law.

The event will be hosted in both English and Spanish, and is open to everyone—women and men, new and experienced business owners alike. You’ll also enjoy free headshots, networking, supper, and breakout sessions with local professionals.

Then we will hear from the Director of SD CEO East Women’s Business Center, Sadie Swier, who will provide a robust small business and digital marketing presentation tailored to entrepreneurs. Attendees will learn practical steps for starting or strengthening a business, along with simple, actionable strategies to boost their visibility online and attract more customers. She will also share details about the upcoming bilingual Small Business training on April 23, including what topics will be covered and how to participate, and will invite your honest feedback and ideas to help shape and improve this year’s program.

HAWBL and the Huron community have reached another goal with Trex Bench #6 on it's way to our city! We have collected over 3 tons of plastic with your help! Our most recent bench is slated to go to Toboggan Hill and will provide a resting place for those folks that are minding the kids while they enjoy the hill!

We've done it again, with the 5th Trex Bench on its way to the Huron community! That means you've helped collect 5000 pounds of soft plastic that was kept out of the landfill!

It's a great project to get kids involved, East River Nursery is the collection point where we weigh and transport the collections to the drop off site. A weekly TREX truck comes through and picks up the bags. Thanks to my granddaughter for helping to complete the plastic transport for the completion of the 5th bench!

It was a beautiful morning for HAWBL to make a presentation of a TREX recycled bench to the Huron Public Library! To date, over 4000 pounds of plastic has been collected and this is the 4th bench in the series to be placed in the Huron community!

We are very close to getting our 5th bench, we encourage people to keep recycling. Current collection points include East River Nursery, Campus Center (at Splash Central), Huron Chamber of Commerce and the Huron Public Library.

We also invite other groups that might want to take on the collection process themselves and bring even more of these to our city. We have a number of 4-H groups that are tackling this project, how about your group or organization?

Here's a quick update on the Trex Plastic Recycling Program that HAWBL started last year at this time. People have been asking if we are going to continue with plastic collection, and the answer is yes. We have collected over 4000 pounds of plastic in the last year and plan to keep going.

For every 1000 pounds of plastic we collect, we are awarded a Park Bench for our efforts which will placed in various Huron locations.

Drop-off points are still the same, Community Campus Center (Splash Central), Huron Chamber & Visitors Bureau, Huron Public Library and EAST River Nursery. Just a reminder, we cannot take hard plastics like water bottles and food containers. Soft plastic bags, bread wrappers, zip lock bags, shrink wrap, etc. are all acceptable.

We also cannot take plastics that are packed in black garbage bags. The company that is doing the pick-ups must be able to see inside the bags when they are making collections. You may place the black plastic inside a clear bag. Please keep that in mind when you are recycling. We appreciate all your efforts in helping to keep our community clean.

Huron Area Women Business Leaders start their summer sessions next week on Wednesday, May 28, 2025. Summer meetings are more informal, offering a space to share your professional journey. Whether you own your own business, are a leader in your workplace, or approaching the end of your career, our weekly HAWLB meetings offer sounding board for your business hopes and dreams as well as a safe space to vent your frustrations and roadblocks!

Meetings run from 7:30-8:30 am, with members starting to gather at 7:15. We appreciate GiGi’sfor hosting our group each week and encourage members to purchase items from their wonderful menu during the meetings.
