Feeder cattle markets slowed on Good Friday, with receipts down 36% from the previous week, but prices remained extremely strong, posting some of the highest levels seen all week. Lightweight calves led the way, with 300–399 lb steers at Verdigre, NE bringing $655.00, while 400–499 lb steers at Mankato, KS sold for $615.00 and 500–599 lb steers at the same location reached $555.00. Midweight cattle followed with 600–699 lb steers at Manhattan, KS bringing $480.00 and 700–799 lb steers at Lexington, NE at $429.25. Heavier feeders also traded at strong levels, with 800–899 lb steers at Huron, SD bringing $386.50, 900–999 lb steers at Mankato, KS at $356.50, and 1,000–1,099 lb steers at Mankato, KS reaching $332.00.

CLARA LIVE 🐄📉 7-Wt Steers Over $400 Continue to Stack Up — 15 Sales Today Despite a $7 Drop in Futures 🐄📉

There have been 1,682 sales of 7-weight steers at $400/cwt or higher in the United States. February accounted for the majority of those sales with 816, followed by January with 512. Activity has continued into the spring with 99 sales recorded so far in March, including 15 occurring today. Prior to the winter surge, totals were significantly lower, with 98 in October, 80 in September, 28 in December, and just 5 in November, while 44 sales occurred before September.

Strong prices continued in the 7-weight market on March 6, with the top sale reported at Burwell, Nebraska, where 80 head averaging 719 lbs brought $439.00/cwt. Several other markets also posted strong results, including Herreid, South Dakota at $423.50, while multiple strings traded from $416.00 to just over $404.00/cwt across Nebraska, South Dakota, and Iowa. In total, 15 sales of 7-weight steers topped $400/cwt today, occurring even as feeder cattle futures fell nearly $7 during the session.

💵🔥 Record Prices & Shifting Trends: August’s Top 10 for Cattle Producers

1️⃣ All-time highs for 3- through 10-weight steers have been set since August 20th.

2️⃣ JC Livestock Sales (Junction City, KS) sold the first 7-weight steers over $400 on August 6th; since then, 45 more sales have crossed that mark.

3️⃣ Boxed beef had its best August in history, climbing $54.09 and finishing higher in 17 of 21 sessions.

4️⃣ August feeder cattle posted a record month, gaining $34.55 with 18 of 20 sessions up.

5️⃣ The top 10 highest prices ever paid for 4- through 10-weight steers were all set in August.

6️⃣ Corn production for 2025/26 is forecast at a record 16.7 billion bushels—1.4 billion more than the previous high in 2023/24. 🌽

7️⃣ The latest CoBank report says beef demand remains exceptionally strong, with consumers paying record-high prices despite inflation.

8️⃣ U.S. beef production is projected at 25.992 billion pounds, the lowest since 2016. Meanwhile, Brazil is projected to outproduce the U.S. for the first time in history. 🇧🇷➡️🇺🇸
