It can be easy and costly to miss an air leak. That’s where a blower door test comes in.

By pressurizing the building, the test measures how much air is moving through the envelope and gives your team a clear read on how tightly the building is sealed.

When does specialty testing make sense?

Usually when there’s something specific your project needs to verify, diagnose, or document.

That could be an IECC requirement, an airflow or ventilation issue, a system that isn’t performing as expected, documentation for an inspector, or confirmation before turnover.

It can also be a good fit when you need objective performance data without taking on a full commissioning scope.

The test depends on what you’re trying to confirm. Our job is to help you figure out which one gets you the answer you need.

Duct leakage testing gives your team a clear answer on whether the duct system is sealed well enough to meet the project requirements.

If too much air is escaping, that can mean failed testing, extra rework, and one more thing standing between your team and turnover.

During testing, the duct system is pressurized so we can measure the leakage and compare it to the required threshold.

The value is knowing where you stand ahead of time.

If something needs to be fixed, we’d rather help you find that out now than at the end of the project.

A duct system can be sealed and still not be delivering the airflow the design calls for.

That’s an important distinction.

During duct testing, we’re looking at leakage, but we’re also paying attention to airflow. If the design calls for a certain CFM and the system isn’t delivering it, you can end up with too much air in one space, not enough in another, and pressure imbalances throughout the building.

Those are the kinds of issues you want to understand.

Sometimes a building gives you a problem without giving you much of an explanation.

Maybe a space isn’t getting comfortable. Maybe airflow doesn’t make sense. Maybe you need documentation before turnover. Or maybe the project has a very specific performance question that needs a very specific answer.

That’s what innovation looks like at Blink.

Energy compliance keeps evolving, and we want to evolve with it. We stay up to date on the latest technologies, tools, and methodologies so we can find better ways to approach the work, solve problems, and help our clients stay ahead of the curve.

Specialty testing covers a lot of ground.

At Blink, that includes air infiltration testing, duct leakage testing, static pressure testing, thermography, lighting control testing, mechanical control testing, indoor air quality, photometric testing, and custom testing and verification.

They’re different tests for different parts of a building, but they all help answer the same basic question: is this actually performing the way it’s supposed to and in the best way possible?

Sometimes that means confirming compliance. Sometimes it means tracking down an issue or getting better information before a small problem becomes a bigger one.

Another great Building Officials Association of Texas (BOAT) Annual Conference in Waco!

This year’s conference was a big success, bringing together building officials, CBOs, and city personnel from across Texas for valuable panels, learning, and collaboration.

A special highlight was seeing several scholarships awarded to students beginning their college journeys. And, of course, casino night brought plenty of fun, even if Gary’s luck at the craps table didn’t quite hold up. Good thing it was fake money! 🎲

We’re grateful for the opportunity to connect, learn, and exchange ideas with professionals who are helping strengthen communities across Texas.
