Charlie Dixon has been with Hutchinson Salt since it was formed in 1990. Prior to that he was with North American Salt. So to say Charlie knows the salt business is an understatement! He and his wife Mary have been an integral part of the success of Hutch Salt over the years and we cannot say thank you enough. We celebrate Charlie’s retirement and wish he, Mary and their family the very best. Enjoy and God’s blessing on you!

This photo of the Carey Salt mine was taken in the late 70s at night by Myron Marcotte. A rare sight of the original Carey wording is shown on the salt shed. The salt shed was constructed in 1969 and can hold 100,000 tons of salt!

Fun Fact Friday:

Miners for many years used a tracking system of who is in the mine. A miner is assigned two brass chips with a number or there initials stamped in them. The miner hangs one on a board topside(above ground) near the hoist or skip. The other stays with the miner. The board is marked to show if the miner is topside or in the mine. In the event of emergency, rescue teams will know how many miners are in the mine. The chips are made of brass to avoid corrosion and sparks. This method is still in place today at the salt mine in Hutchinson. Have great weekend folks!
