Notario fraud on the Cape is up! These deplorable individuals (notarios) call themselves "paralegals," "consultants," and "friends." They are NOT your friends.

Nothing is more infuriating than people who exploit immigrants during some of the most important moments of their lives. So-called "notarios" and immigration consultants often prey on vulnerable individuals, charging thousands of dollars for legal advice they are not qualified to give. The consequences can be devastating—denied applications, loss of lawful status, removal proceedings, and families torn apart.

If someone is not a licensed attorney or an accredited representative authorized to practice immigration law, be extremely cautious before trusting them with your future. Your immigration case is too important to place in the hands of a scammer.

Protect yourself. Verify credentials. When in doubt, seek advice from a qualified immigration attorney or a trusted community organization.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has issued a final rule rescinding the 2022 Biden-era regulation regarding public charge determinations.

The now-rescinded Biden-era regulation restricted which public benefits DHS could consider. Now, USCIS officers are empowered to assess many more facts on a case-by-case basis for each applicant.

The rule will take effect on Sept. 18, 2026 and will affect green card applications filed on or after that date.
