One of the biggest mistakes homeowners make during a drought is stopping fertilizer applications.

It sounds logical at first. Less water must mean less fertilizer, right?

In reality, drought-stressed lawns rely heavily on their root systems. Healthy, well-fed turf is often far better equipped to survive heat, drought, and watering restrictions than turf that is already struggling.

With water restrictions becoming a reality across parts of Eastern Idaho, I put together an article explaining why fertilization is still important during drought conditions and what homeowners should focus on to give their lawns the best chance of recovery.

Water restrictions and drought conditions are impacting Idaho Falls and Eastern Idaho. Learn why healthy lawns and strong root systems handle drought stress better and whether you should continue fertilizing during dry conditions.

What are these white things hanging from my tree?
We receive calls about these almost every week throughout Idaho Falls and Eastern Idaho.
Most homeowners know something doesn't look right, but they're not sure what they're looking at, whether it's harming the tree, or what can be done about it.
In many cases, the answer is Cottony Maple Scale, one of the most common tree pests we encounter on maple and other deciduous trees.
These insects can weaken trees over time, contribute to yellowing leaves, create sticky honeydew, attract other insects, and lead to overall tree decline if left untreated.
We put together an article explaining what Cottony Maple Scale is, how to identify it, the damage it causes, and the best ways to control it.

Understanding Cottony Maple Scale in Idaho Falls & Eastern Idaho We receive calls every single week about sick trees. In fact, if you asked our office administrator what the most common tree-related call is, she'd probably answer it before the homeowner even finishes describing the problem

We put together a quick article explaining how lawn w**d control actually works, why w**ds can continue appearing after an application, and what homeowners should realistically expect after treatment.

If your spruce tree has started turning brown from the top down, dropping bark, or showing patches of dead branches, IPS engraver beetles may be the cause.
Despite what many online sources claim, we see IPS beetle damage every year throughout Idaho Falls and Eastern Idaho—and in some cases, trees can decline rapidly once they're attacked.
In this article, we cover:

Most homeowners don't think about grub damage until their lawn starts turning brown.

The problem is that by the time you notice the damage, the insects have often been feeding on the root system for weeks.

One of the most common signs? A lawn that looks dry no matter how much you water it.

We recently put together an article explaining:
• The two most common grub pests we find in Eastern Idaho lawns
• Why grub damage is often mistaken for drought stress
• How to identify root damage before it becomes severe
• What homeowners can look for in their own lawn

FREEZE WARNING TONIGHT ⚠️
Temperatures are expected to drop to around 25° tonight across Eastern Idaho. If your sprinkler system is already turned on, don’t forget to protect your Pressure Vacuum Breaker (PVB).
A frozen backflow/PVB can crack internally and turn into a very expensive repair once temperatures warm back up.

A few quick tips:
• Cover the PVB with an insulated cover, towel, or blanket
• If your system isn’t in use yet, shutting the water off and draining the assembly is even better.

Most sprinkler damage from spring freezes is completely preventable with a few minutes of preparation.
Stay warm out there.— Evergreen Lawn & Tree
