Imperial Beach continues to face a serious environmental and public-health crisis caused by sewage pollution, contaminated ocean water, repeated beach closures, toxic odors and years of delayed solutions.
Residents have been forced to live with closed beaches, warnings against water contact and ongoing concerns about what may be present in the air and water. Local families, visitors and businesses continue to suffer while government agencies offer temporary responses instead of stopping the pollution at its source.
The County of San Diego’s air-purifier program did not solve the underlying problem. An air purifier inside a home cannot clean the ocean, stop sewage flows, repair failing infrastructure or prevent another beach closure. Imperial Beach Technology raised these concerns more than a year ago, and the continuing crisis shows why temporary measures were never enough.
Imperial Beach Technology is calling for real action, including transparent water and air testing, independent verification of contamination levels, firm deadlines for infrastructure improvements, a full accounting of taxpayer spending, regular public meetings and accountability when agencies fail to protect the community.
This is our beach. This is our health. This is our future.
Citizens of Imperial Beach must stand up, attend public meetings, contact elected officials, demand written answers and refuse to allow this crisis to be ignored.
