Current Snake Activity in October

• Transition Period: October marks the tail end of Missouri's primary snake season (which typically runs from April through mid-to-late October).
• Fall Movement: Species like copperheads and timber rattlesnakes remain active in the fall as they migrate toward their winter dens or hibernacula.
• Warm Days: On sunny or unusually warm October afternoons, snakes will still bask in the open to absorb heat before temperatures drop for the night.
• Brumation: As nighttime temperatures consistently cool down, snakes slow their metabolism and head underground into rock crevices, root systems, or abandoned burrows to brumate (the reptile form of hibernation).

Safety Tips for October

• Watch Your Step: Fall activity often means snakes are moving through dry leaves, woodpiles, and overgrown brush where they are hard to see—especially copperheads.
• Wear Proper Gear: Step carefully and wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes or tall boots when walking through wooded or rocky areas.
• Give Them Space: Most snakes prefer to avoid humans and will leave if given room. Do not try to handle or move them.

"I love 2 Nice Guys. For one thing, they are local and feel you should support local when you can. They come and spray inside and out and are very thorough, as we use them for quarterly maintenance for bugs. You pay for the visit and not a monthly fee, which is cheaper than a monthly fee for someone less thorough. We will not switch again." says Tammy on Google
