"Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves." - The Bible

This is one of many quotes in the Bible that talk about service. Jesus gave many examples, including connecting service to leadership. In the modern world, this is known as "servant leadership."

Servant leadership is reflected in this passage from Lao Tzu who wrote in the Tao De Ching "when his work is done, his aim fulfilled, they will say: we did it ourselves."

One of the greatest failures of leaders is putting themselves before the cause, or purpose or mission of their organization. This happens when they are blinded by selfish ambition wanting to be recognized for who they are. It happens when they have too high an opinion of themselves - believing they know more than they do. And in many cases it happens because, while they mean well, they're insecurities won't allow them to let go and trust others.

We is better than I. Always.

Share what you know willingly. Coach and help people grow. Be both teacher and learner. Align toward the larger goal - the cause, the mission, the purpose. Most importantly, listen and pray for guidance from God. It will provide clarity as you go through your journey.

The worthy societal goal for a better balance of profit and purpose extends to investing. When we put our money behind a company, will they do good things with it? What will the impact of growth and success be on lives, communities and the world?

This article looks at dynamic of investing from the larger societal view, pointing out the complexity that extends beyond simple metrics. Getting to meaningful purpose is key - both a company’s reason for existing and reason for doing. We call that Believability, aligning what you say you stand for with that you do. This is acting with purpose, on purpose.

Good article on why purpose statements miss the mark. In our experience this comes from focusing on the "reason for doing" definition and not the "reason for existing" definition. Making money is a reason for doing - and a valid one because growth takes capital. Making money is the reason for existing - having an impact. This is meaningful purpose and helping organizations align what they say and do in this quest is what we do. The fear of 1. not having enough and 2. not being enough drives us all. Focus on making money and meaning (profit & purpose) and those fears will go away.

Greetings. We're gathering examples of company initiatives that build Believability®. So what is that? It's an intentional use of resources to make a profound, positive impact. That happens when brand and business strategy aligns. Here's a great example - Trip Advisor, which makes it's money by serving travelers, is raising money through a matching campaign for the International Rescue Committee - an organization that provides resources for refugees, asylum seekers, trafficking victims, and vulnerable immigrants. These are folks traveling too - just under much different circumstances. So who else is doing something like this?
