A message from Chief Michael Anderson:
Nearly 3 years ago I took over the Operations Manager role at Special Task Force Protection Agency. My goal was never to imitate what other security companies were doing but to create an Agency that would stand apart from the others while using creativity, strong training programs, operating with integrity (not just talking about it), and working with transparency.
This has been a work in progress. Here are a few examples of what is implemented at our Agency that makes us stand apart:
•Field Training Program: Areas covered include legal authority on property, Use of force continuum, reasonable suspicion, radio traffic, documentation, fi****ms qualifications, pepper spray and Taser certification, street tactics, and other material. Our Supervisors also must attend a leadership course prior to receiving the badge.
•Internal divisions: We utilize dispatchers, a mobile patrol division, on-site division, and investigations division.
•Dispatch line: We field calls which include Suspicious Activity, noise complaints, standby for protection, request for trespass, shots fired, disturbances, open doors, homeless subjects on property, loitering, drug use on property, traffic issues on property, request for investigation, extra patrols, apartment watch, vacation watch, squatters, and other issues.
•Sworn Police Officers: Our Agency has some sworn officers. I conduct a mandatory "Off-Duty Police Course" that is required for every Agent who wears a police uniform while on-duty regardless if they have Tier 1 or Tier 2 ILEA certifications. Material includes terry stops, vehicle approaches, searches, amendments, probably cause and reasonable suspicion, off-duty paperwork, public relations, law enforcement interactions, Miranda rights, evidence collection, authority on property, and many others. Our Sworn Officers adhere to strict standards and must follow guidelines.
•Awards and Promotions: Processes are held in order to determine Supervisors. Scenario training and interviews are conducted. Awards include Agent of the year, Trespass awards, and integrity awards.
•Balance: Everyone that is employed here understands that there are many roles in public safety which includes at times helping and advocating for those that cannot help themselves. Operating with compassion and being in the field for the right reasons is a foundation of STFPA.
•Databases: We have an extensive database system which includes Trespasses (Over 200 verifiable documented trespasses including subject images, digital copies, property location, time, police assistance notification), FTO sign-offs, and Investigation database to name a few.
We label cases and investigate matters that are related to our properties except when specialized law enforcement units are involved. Many of our cases have been converted to packets and transferred to law enforcement detectives.
Our ultimate goal is the safety of our properties, to work collectively with the community, and to provide security professionals with the best opportunities by taking advantage of our culture.
