Boutique de Junque

Located in Indianapolis, The Boutique de Junque is 8,000 dimly lit square feet with all manner of letterpress equipment, tools and ephemera.

We are closing early today. Likely we won’t be open past 2 PM. Thank you for your understanding.

By the way, the official opening hours for Saturday are 11 AM to 3 PM but I believe people will be there from about eight in the morning so come whenever you want.

The Boutique de Junque will be open this Saturday, October 24!

Following the loss of my mom, I’m taking a little time away. Fortunately, our distinguished warehouse docents—Gretchen, Jeff and Mike—will be covering in my absence, guiding visitors through the collection and encouraging them to take portions of it home.

My sincere thanks to these three for making it possible to keep the doors open while I catch my breath, and to everyone who’s offered kindness and support.

Come see them. They’ve been entrusted with the keys and a troubling amount of discretion.

Memorial Day and The Indianapolis 500 is this weekend.

We are located just a few miles from the Speedway, which means this is either:
A) terrible timing👎
or
B) opportunity disguised as chaos😄✅

We’re choosing opportunity.😎🤙

Boutique de Junque will be open this Saturday for our regular Fourth Saturday opening from 11am–3pm.

If race weekend brings you to town — or if you simply want to experience vintage Americana, industrial archaeology, old letterpress printing equipment—and 230mph+ racing energy and related festivities — we’ll be here.

We are only a few miles from the track, so if you are approaching from the west, avoid driving directly through the town of Speedway. Otherwise, highway access in and out of town should be normal, and traffic near the Boutique itself will be unaffected. Fuel, fire, speed, noise… and somewhere nearby, a surprisingly quiet letterpress boutique, balancing the chaos. Come experience the balance!

FOUND!!! What the heck is this thing?? 🤔

In the perpetual “down-layering” this beautiful old “press” was discovered and I had to share it with you all. It’s a little mysterious… but once upon a time it was cutting-edge technology.

Pop quiz:: Do you know what this is/was used for?

No AI or Googling. Comment your guesses below. Everyone who guesses correctly AND shows up will receive 50% off all purchases of items that were recently increased in cost by 50%. (Yes, you read that right).

We’ll have it out for hands-on inspection this Saturday, April 25th at the Boutique de Junque and I promise—it’s even cooler in person.

It’s 4th Saturday at Boutique de Junque (we’re open every 2nd and 4th Saturday) from 11AM–3PM.

The temperature inside the warehouse is in the low 60s and Saturday’s high is 72F… and sunny….and a letterpress target-rich environment. Do I really need to keep selling, here? Geesh. In other words, you have no excuse to stay away.

Come hang out, say hi, and take your best guess at the mystery machine.

See you there.

Part 2: for those wondering how stable that pyramid was, he got “Clabbored”! 💥🫣

From “WHAT IS EVEN HAPPENING HERE?” to… this.

Back in 2019–2020 (yes, those years), this corner of the warehouse was a dark, chaotic pile of boards, boxes, and massive confusion. The kind of space you avoid unless curiosity is outweighing common sense.

Then came the makeover—one arcane, misfit item after another was cleared and the area lit to reveal a blank slate.

These cabinets are/were a massive collection of vintage type from a historic Terre Haute shop belonging to Clabber Girl Baking Powder, owned by the Hulman family—owners of the Indy 500 and the IRL—sold to Roger Penske, and their printing assets were sold to me.

And if you notice a few (or a lot of) empty drawers… that’s because they’ve been heading out the door ever since—finding new homes, one printer at a time. (You know who you are).

Boutique de Junque opens this second Saturday, April 11th. 11 AM – 3 PM

Weather’s looking sunny in the low 60’s. Come wander through, dig around, and find some letterpress Easter eggs. 🐣(see what I did there)? Hope to see you Saturday!
