“What if it all works out for the best?” asked my wife seven years ago today when I called her and shared that I had unexpectedly been severenced from the company I had served for nearly seventeen years. Little did I know at that moment that the generous severance package was seed money for what would soon become AD Growth Advisers Inc.

My wise wife was right! Today we thank our partners Apeiron Network, IDS Publishing Corporation, and PPS International Limited and our clients around the world. We are grateful to be able to be of service doing worthy work that we love doing!

Here is to April showers that bring May flowers or opportunities disguised as adversities.

Creating more leaders in an interdependent environment is like breeding dinosaurs during the Ice Age. People must learn to work together to thrive in today’s fluid and complex environment. Equipping people with collaboration skills allows them to communicate, coordinate, cooperate, reach a consensus, commit to mutual purposes, and co-create new solutions. The two leadersaurus skills of command and control can be safely stored behind breakable glass to be used in the event of an actual emergency such as a fire.

We need a character flip from Me to We to evolve our organizations to adapt to a rapidly changing emerging future. Our interdependent business future is a collaborative one. 21st Century Leadership is collaboration in action.

Collaboration (a way of solving problems and co-creating together) is not a product to be acquired and installed into your organization. Collaboration is both belief and behavior. Becoming a competent collaborator requires a change of mindset and heart attitude. It is putting faith in a proven process and trust in other people’s capabilities and wisdom. Collaborators must prioritize interdependence over independence. Collaboration is a skill that is learned and mastered through committed practice, experimentation, and failures. Collaboration, as an organizational competency, cannot be purchased, but it can be grown.
