For those of you who remember my Green Piece Indy days, I'm back at it with ReduceReuseReplace. If you are interested in reducing your consumption, reusing whenever possible, and replacing single-use, throwaway items with less-waste alternatives, I hope you'll come along for the ride! I am originally from Indianapolis, IN, and moved to St. I’ve been on a green living journey since the early 00’s w
hen I read a book about healing dis-ease from the inside-out. My main takeaway was that the Earth gives us everything we need to take care of ourselves, we just need to take care of it. Sadly, I don’t think we’re doing a very good job at that. In Indiana, I co-created a green living e-newsletter called Green Piece Indy. We sent tips on how to live a greener lifestyle twice a week for eight years. After a break from writing green living advice, I’m back to encourage anyone who will listen to 1.) REDUCE their consumption of stuff, 2.) REUSE stuff whenever they can, and 3.) REPLACE as much single-use stuff as possible with less-waste alternatives. I’m disrupting the 3 Rs because we have become complacent with recycling. We use recycling as a way to make ourselves feel less guilty about consumption of single-use, throwaway items. And it’s time to stop the nonsense. Why on Earth would we choose wasteful, harmful, contaminating stuff when there are zero-waste, harmless, non-contaminating options available? It’s certainly not out of care for the Earth! Full disclosure: I’m NOT perfect. I got burned out and gave up hope for awhile. I’m still discovering ways to eliminate waste from my life. I do still choose convenience over sustainability sometimes. I have guilty pleasures – and I’ll sheepishly share them along the way.
