Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when the enslaved people in Galveston, Texas learned that they were free. General Orders No. 3 carried that news to the city, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

The original Juneteenth flag holds red, white, and blue from the American flag. A five-point star represents Texas. A burst surrounds it, showing freedom spreading outward to every enslaved person in the country.

Today we honor that history. We celebrate the progress made and stay committed to the work ahead in the pursuit of justice for all.

That’s why we created this list of FREE family community events & resources happening across Indianapolis. From food pantries to health clinics, hygiene supplies to safe family spaces these are the things that truly move our city forward.

Too often, the resources that matter most are overlooked. We’re committed to making them visible.
