Let’s do the math…
In the Great Lakes Region, the recommended brine rates for de-icing are:
• 40 gallons per acre for pre-treat
• 80 gallons per acre for post-treat

That’s 120 gallons per acre, per event.
Example: a 4-acre lot:
• 4 acres × 120 gallons/acre = 480 gallons per event

What it costs to make vs. apply:
When you make your own salt brine, it should cost less than $0.20 per gallon (including salt, water, and labor).
That means:
• 480 gallons × $0.20 = about $96 in materials to de-ice that 4-acre site.
But if you were spreading solid salt instead—what would it cost at today’s prices? And what happens when prices increase this season?

This is an INVESTMENT
Adding liquids to your operation isn’t just a “nice idea”—it’s an operational ROI strategy.
• You can often see ROI in your first season
• If you maintain 50 acres or more, you may be able to recapture new equipment costs in Year 1 from material savings alone

Want to learn how to do it?
Join us for our FREE seminar in Ann Arbor, MI at Washtenaw Community College.
Bring as many people from your team as you’d like!
