THE MOTHERBABY WORKS TOGETHER

If you are offering advice to new mothers about how to care for their babies and not taking into account the MOTHER'S needs. Or if you are offering advice to new mothers about how to care for themselves and not taking into account the BABY'S needs...

Then your advice is not worth taking.

CALLIN' IT LIKE I SEE IT

I'm an old enough mom that I remember a time before the OCD, eccessive Type A, stress inducing, impossible standards of modern day mothering advice. I remember a time before
It was, well, glorious.

Do babies have periods of alertness during the day? Uh, yeah. They're supposed to.

Does the length of those periods of alterness increase with time? Uh, yeah. Duh.

Do all babies follow the strict, arbitrary window of time for alertness and sleep? No, not usually.

😢

Join me for a live chat about wake windows on Saturday at 5pm PST through the Intuitive Motherhood Skool to find out what's normal, what's made up BS, and what we should actually be doing for our babies daytime sleep.

JOIN US!

For the last 6 years I have tried every medium I could find to live out my dream of a truly functional virtual support group for moms - you know, without having to BUILD a whole platform (cause I'm no IT genius). I've tried Facebook Groups, WhatsApp groups, Discord... none of it really lent itself to the kind of all-inclusive support I wanted to provide.

ENTER Skool coming in HOT with a platform that can host my courses, webinars, virtual meet ups, and SO many other features I hadn't even considered needing (hello to my clients all over the world... we can get you hooked up with one another so much more easily now!) Needless to say, I'm excited. Really excited. Maybe too excited.

So, what does the Intuitive Motherhood Skool offer? Well, among other things:

🀌🏼 Access to my Birth and Breastfeeding Courses, and the courses I'm still working on including a Natural Baby Sleep Course

🀌🏼 Weekly calls so you can bring your most current concerns and questions for guidance

🀌🏼 Webinars galore (currently prepping for topics such as Starting Solids, Weaning, Managing Illnesses, with many more still on the docket)

🀌🏼 Connection with likeminded mothers, what I would have given for this during those lonely middle of the night feedings with my first...

🀌🏼 And, there is no age cap to this group! If you are pregnant, have a newborn, toddler, or teenager, the challenges never end so the support shouldn't either!

And, maybe most importantly:
The Intuitive Motherhood Skool is here to fill the gap for mothers who DON'T feel right just following mainstream recommendations about caring for their children. Mothers who QUESTION the standard narrative about babies meeding to be separated and dismissed. Mothers who want to follow their INTUITION and find true connection to their children. Mothers looking for TRUTH.

If you or someone you know could benefit from this group, hit the link in the profile and join us β™‘

THE ACTUAL JOB STARTS LATER

From birth through the Fourth Trimester, you are in Boobie Bootcamp... you haven't actually begun breastfeeding yet.

Breastfeeding requires voluntary function from baby and adequate demand for supply from the bo***es. Until the end of the Fourth Trimester, baby's function is mostly REFLEXES and your supply is mostly POSTPARTUM HORMONES. By four months important reflexes and postpartum hormones are mostly gone.

By about four months, the supports are gone.

The training wheels are off the bike.

The air has come out of the floaties.

The job has begun!

Saying at one month that "breastfeeding is going well" is like saying your new employee, one month into training, "does the job well". No, they don't. They havent even started doing the job at ALL.
They're still in TRAINING.
On PROBATION.

So if a pediatrician, or sleep trainer or pushy neighbor tells you you can do less because "breastfeeding is going great" anytime in the first three months, run. 🚩🚩🚩 (Still a red flag beyond the first three months, but just full on sabotage before then.)

If your baby and b***s are still doing their job and meeting their goals BEYOND the four month mark (i.e. transferring milk well, making enough milk, etc), THEN you get the Best Employee award.
Doesn't nean you can do less, but that's another conversation for another time.

JUST CAUSE YOU COULD, DOESNT MEAN YOU SHOULD.

I can't really belive it's 2026, we have actual neuroscientific research about how human baby brains develop and what they need for that development (spoiler, it's contact with mom's body and responsiveness), and STILL we are hearing people say nonsense like this. Like, sure. You COULD do a lot of things you probably SHOULDN'T.

This s**t (sleep training) was invented by old white dudes in the 189p's and perfected by the literal N***S... and somehow mothers are still being lied to about how babies should sleep. It's pretty impressive, actually.

Repeat after me:
πŸ—£ YOU CANNOT REMOVE OVERNIGHT FEEDINGS AND MAINTAIN MILK PRODUCTION LONG TERM.

I don't make the rules this isn't my design, take your annoyance up with your Creator. I'm just here to tell you it works so you don't accidentally get sabotaged by LIES. If breastfeeding matters to you, if you want to make it past the 6 week mark, you need real support and real strategies to make it work. It does not always come easy, but nothing worth having does.

I'm here for ya if you're struggling with how to simultaneously:
❀️ Protect breastfeeding
❀️ Support your baby's brain and development
❀️ Ensure they learn how to sleep independently
❀️ SURVIVE it all

Reach out! I'll help you navigate the noise and come up with a plan that works for you and your baby!

PLAN FOR BIRTH LIKE IT'S A PRIORITY

Your time, energy, and money goes where your priorities are, this is true for all of us. Some folks like bags and shoes, video games or cars, or nutritional supplements and pastured eggs from the Amish (me, this one is me). It can be very hard as a first time mom to understand the love and protectiveness that's going to immediately descend upon you when you meet this little person you are growing, but it explains why SO many second time moms chooce to hire a doula after being put through the ringer and leaving their first birth traumatized with a traumatized baby. Your first pregnancy and birth and postpartum should not be a throw away experience, a trial. It should be treated with reverence and care.

Finding out you are pregnant comes with lots of worry, especially financial worry. That's a normal response. It's overwhelming. What is also true is that CHEAP IS EXPENSIVE in the long run.

Put your time, energy, and money into preparing for your birth and postpartum as you have with every other major decision and event in your life.

It's THAT important.

In LA and knocked up? Reach out, let's get you READY for the big day πŸ’ͺπŸΌπŸŽ‰

BREAST IS BASELINE

There are no benefits to breastfeeding, there are risks to NOT breastfeeding. Your newborn has a fully functioning immune system, nervous system, and brain - YOU.

And the mode of delivery is breastfeeding.

Your newborn is little more than a fetus for the first 9 months after birth, your milk is supposed to FINISH THE JOB THE PLACENTA STARTED. It's not a nice-to-have, it's a need-to-have for an underdeveloped, fragile, vulnerable fetus living on the outside.

Your milk fights every possible infection
Supports optimal closure of the open gut
Sends stem cells across the blood brain barrier
Programs the immune system
Gives your baby exposure to allergenic food proteins in pre-digested form to protect against an inflammatory response, while at the same time exposing your baby to FLAVORS.

And the list of jobs your milk has goes on and on and on and on and on. And the research is solid. So solid, in fact, that the AAP Pediatrics
Had to change their recommendations from "BF if you want for a year or more" to " well, damn, actually you should probably try to get to 24 months" just a few short years ago. Draggin' a$$ behind the World Health Organization - an embarrassment of an organization. They made this change even though the AAP is primarily funded by formula companies. Do you know how good the evidence has to be for money grubbers like the AAP to go against their SHAREHOLDERS?

Breast milk is what your baby's body and brain are EXPECTING after birth to COMPLETE the process of growing a human. Let's be SO for real.

And Happy World Breastfeeding Week!

THEY NEED YOU MORE THAN YOU NEED THEM.

Your ESTIMATED DUE DATE is not a fixed date, it is not the Word of God, and it should not be treated as such. It is a guess, an educated guess, but a guess.

Most first time mothers will go to 41 weeks.
Most second time mouths will go past 40 weeks.
Your OBs impatience and panic to get your baby birthed has nothing to do with their safety or your best interest (in normal, healthy, low risk moms) and everything to do with their own convenience.

The ARRIVE Trial set out to show that babies had better outcomes when evicted early, having been "saved from pregnancy". What they found? No improvement in outcomes for babies at all. And that's not even the tip of the iceberg because wtf that study could not have been more poorly run if they actually tried.

We know MOMS aren't happier (hello, 1/3 report feeling dissatisfied with their maternity care, 45% report feeling they felt unsafe to express concerns or ask questions), they also aren't healthier (despite spending the most $$ per patient in the US we still rank 52nd in the world for maternal outcomes, expnentially worse for Black mothers), so it ain't for US. We're not exactly killing it atm.

So it's clearly about the hospital. About your doctor wanting to be sure they can be at your birth and bill for it. Nursing managers to be able to ensure adequate staffing and not have nurses hanging around getting paid if there isn't enough work. It's about all the wrong things.

ELECTIVE INDUCTION? JUST SAY NO!

I'M THE LOSER

My the best friends are all crochet masters. They make sweaters and scarves and pot holders and whole ass figurines out of yarn. Every time we're together I'm the loser in the corner NOT making anything because when one friend offered to teach us years ago, I didn't stick with it.

Fast forward to this week and I'm super jelly that my friends are living their best grandma lives at co-op and I'm just on my phone working. So I decide to start again. And guys... I was doing so well!!! A few tips from my buds, and I was 18 rows into a scarf! I was noticing the edges getting really wonky so I decided to start over - and this photo is where I'm at after 90 minutes of "starting over".

So I text in the group chat that I'm over it, and I get a dose of my own medicine:
"Rome wasn't built in a day, Chelsea"
"Keep trying!"
"I still hate starting a project"
My cheerleaders β™‘

The irony is that that's my job! I cheerlead women all day every day NOT to give up before they've even begun. I'm out here reminding women that new skills take time to master and can be HARD, but are totally worth the effort. Saying over and over that WE NEVER QUIT ON OUR WORST DAY!
So, I'm not going to quit. That pile of yarn WILL be something useful, and I will go on to make dozens of scarves and potholders and make even a cardigan one day. And YOU will birth and breastfeed and parent that gorgeous baby of yours comfortably and happily and with incredible ease.

We can do hard things, so let's commit and make it happen πŸ’ͺ🏼
