Six years ago, we responded to a structure fire that resulted in the tragic loss of a dog due to smoke inhalation, which prompted two of our members to advocate for the acquisition of pet oxygen masks for our department. Last night, we were delighted to see the success of their efforts when our team utilized these masks to save the lives of three family pets in a structure fire. We highly recommend other departments to consider obtaining these masks by contacting their local veterinary hospital. Kanawha County Issues a State of Preparedness for Incoming Severe Weather Event

Charleston, W.Va. – The Kanawha County Commission has issued a State of Preparedness for Kanawha County due to incoming severe weather. Expect strong thunderstorms with gusty winds this afternoon and evening.

With many still cleaning up from the April 2nd storms, citizens and their property are vulnerable to the effects from another severe storm.

The Kanawha County Commission is keeping the Emergency Operations Center on standby and ready to activate when necessary. All First Responders in the County are being notified by Metro 911 of this severe weather event. Kanawha County is working with the Governor’s Office and West Virginia Emergency Management to plan and prepare.

Citizens are asked to stay vigilant and take all precautions due to this severe weather event. Be prepared for potential power outages. Watch local news and radio for updates. Follow Kanawha County social media for updates.
