Thank you to the University of Iowa Office of Campus Safety for leading the charge in hosting the Consulado de México en Omaha and welcoming them to the Iowa City Area! We were honored to work alongside them, Iowa City Area Business Partnership, Tippie College of Business, University of Iowa, Emprendimiento Latino 5M, Open Heartland, and Andale Cantina Bar & Grill.
Consul Jorge Ernesto Espejel Montes, accompanied by Rodrigo Grijalva of the Department of Protection, held a meeting with Iowa City, Mayor Bruce Teague, and members of the Johnson County Board of Supervisors as well as County Sheriff Brad Kunkel and regional directors of Senators Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst.
Consul Espejel gave an informative discussion on Mexico's trade relationship with the State of Iowa, statistics, and ways to continue its good relationship. Economic development agencies and organizations were also present with community leaders, including graduates of the Women Entrepreneurs program, who gave words of appreciation for participating in the Consulate Dream Builder Program, .
Not to mention the participation of various banking institutions, the University of Iowa business school, and leaders of local international organizations. We ended the day on a high note. We dined with the Consul and local Mexican small business owners and community leaders to explore ways to bring more business support programming and social services to Mexican Nationals in Eastern Iowa.
