Tonight's wine: Compañia de Vinos Telmo Rodriguez.
This is from the Sierras de Málaga region in the very southern part of Spain, near the straits of Gibraltar. Plenty of Mediterranean influence and hot temperatures leaves this with floral aromas, pear, stonefruit, honey, ginger.
Because climate affects flavor.
This is a 2017, and I would say it's just a tad past its prime. Normally this would have some pretty racy acidity, and it's a little soft but still quite delicious.
The grape is an old variety known as Muscat of Alexandria - an ancient white aromatic grape that is a little more full-bodied and thrives in hot temperatures - It originated in North Africa. Wines from this grape can range anywhere from dry to sweet. I would say this particular bottle is off dry, with just a tinge of sweetness.
It's also known as Zibibbo (Italy), Gordo Blanco (Spain), and Hanepoot (South Africa).
This bottle would pair perfectly with spicy food, salads, and salty cured meats. 😉
Cheers!!
