June 12, 2026. The Gogebic Range Solid Waste Transfer Station has reopened to the general public. All vehicles that are NOT self-dumping must use the on-site roll-off box dumpsters. Hours are Monday - Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (Central Standard Time). All Wakefield City voucher users must present their voucher at the window upon arrival.

Due to the recent fire, the transfer station will be closed to the public until further notice.

Residential garbage collection and dumpster pickup services will continue as scheduled and will not be affected by the closure.

While the building sustained significant damage, the compactor—the core piece of equipment for our operation—experienced only minor damage. Replacement parts have been ordered, and an electrician has already been on site to begin the repair process.

We are working diligently to complete the necessary repairs and will reopen the transfer station to the public as soon as it is safe and operational. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.
