Here's my interview with Chris Hazell, published by The University of Dallas where I teach in the College of Business, about my new book with Dr. Joel Bennett, Your Best Self at Work. I appreciated Chris's curiosity about the writing process and the ideas we discuss in the book to help people be their "Best Self" at work and in life.

We sat down with Affiliate Assistant Professor of Management Ben Dilla, Ph.D., to discuss his new co-authored book, Your Best Self at Work: Aligning Strengths, Emotional Intelligence &

Book Release Day - June 15, 2021
I wrote Your Best Self at Work with coauthor Joel Bennett for people who want to be more effective in their work and relationships. We show the power of aligning your unique personal strengths with the skills of emotional intelligence and practices of resilience for better results even in times of turmoil. You'll learn about these concepts through the story of Sam, a young professional who is struggling in her career but finds renewed energy and focus through several developmental experiences and support from others. The book provides assessments, reflections, discussion questions, and other resources to guide you in your own journey.

With less than two weeks until the release of my book with co-author Joel Bennett, Your Best Self at Work, it occurred to me that we didn’t do a Dedication page. Our editor never brought it up, and she probably would have said we didn’t need one. I know this because we had a similar conversation about having someone write a Foreword....

My new book, Your Best Self at Work, co-authored with Dr. Joel Bennett, is scheduled for release on Jun 15th! We reveal the power of aligning your natural STRENGTHS with the skills of EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE and the practices of RESILIENCE. When we started working on the book two years ago, we had no idea about the global pandemic, economic turmoil, racial unrest, and political polarization that we've experienced in the past 12-15 months. The alignment of these three themes is more important than ever! You can get a free excerpt of the book prior to its release at https://tinyurl.com/uetsmh83

Most students of management are familiar with Pareto’s Principle or the 80/20 Rule, stating that 80% of the value comes from 20% of the inputs. For example, it’s common with most companies that 20% of your customers are responsible for 80% of your sales. Likewise, we often see that 20% of employees produce 80% of results (and you want to take especially good care of those employees from the standpoint of financial rewards and future opportunities!)....

Developing the skills of emotional intelligence and the practices that support resilience is the magic 20% that can drive 80% of effectiveness, even in the use of your unique talents and strengths.

Strengths in a Pandemic?!?
If you were drawn to the title of this article, it’s likely you already understand and appreciate the power of talents and strengths to enhance individual performance, contributions on a team, and organizational performance. (Or maybe you’re drawn to the idea that there might be strengths and resources to draw upon in a time such as this.) Have you felt a bit off balance over the past year in applying your strengths during the COVID-19 pandemic, lockdowns in our cities, and the ensuing economic turmoil?...

My recent work with Dr. Joel Bennett has explored the benefits of aligning one’s strengths with emotional intelligence (EI) and resilience. Little did we know when we started this work two years ago that all of us would be experiencing a global pandemic with the ensuing economic tremors and challenges to the very nature of work itself. Current conditions seem to make the consideration of EI and resilience even more important....

Published: April 5, 2021. Two years ago, I had a simple question. What is the relationship between two of the psychological concepts I’ve found to be most helpful in leadership development — strengths and emotional intelligence? My interest in individual assessments had led me to explore strengt...
