The Dog and Oyster Micro-Vineyard

The Dog and Oyster Micro-Vineyard The Hope and Glory Inn's micro-vineyard and oyster bar located front and center of the Hope and Glory. Raw bar specializing in oysters.
(759)

Dog and Oyster wines plus a full service bar. The vineyard consists of Petit Manseng vines. The quirky name of the vineyard was created to honor the rescue dogs that rescued the grapes at its previous location from deer and other animals; and, to honor the oyster, one of the Chesapeake Bay region’s greatest assets. We now offer oyster shooters & charcuterie Fri and Sat 11AM - 5PM; Sun Noon - 5 PM

There’s something special about being recognized for exactly who you are—and for a place like The Hope and Glory Inn, that identity has always been rooted in charm, character, and a true sense of place.

We’re honored to be featured by The Hotel Guru as one of the Chesapeake Bay’s “Best Hotels for Rural Retreats.”

Described as “the stuff of farmhouse dreams,” the Inn is “celebrated for its collection of rustic rooms and cottages set on a vineyard, where open fires, cheerful florals, and beautifully restored vintage details create a setting that feels both timeless and deeply personal. Paired with farm-to-fork dining and a thoughtfully curated wine list, it’s an experience designed to slow you down and settle you in.”

For us, that’s what it’s always been about—creating a place where guests feel not just welcomed, but truly transported.

If you’ve joined us before, you know. And if you haven’t yet… this might be your invitation to discover your own rural retreat here on at The Hope and Glory.

Our “dog” proudly sporting a patriotic tutu and the tables are dressed for the holiday weekend! 🇺🇸

We look forward to welcoming you to The Dog & Oyster Micro-Vineyard & Oyster Bar this Memorial Day Weekend under the tent and away from the 🌧️ elements for oysters, our Dog & Oyster wines, coastal flavors like Chef Stuart Tyson’s soft shell crab weekend specials.

And for those who haven’t visited us yet… or who are still looking for the “old” Dog & Oyster… this is your reminder that The Dog & Oyster has evolved into something truly special here in Irvington.

What began as a tiny oyster and wine spot has grown into a full Chesapeake experience in the heart of one of the Bay’s most charming towns. Today you’ll find chandeliers hanging beneath the tent, fresh flowers on the tables, wines crafted specifically for oysters, expanded food offerings beyond oysters alone, and one of the few places in the region serving local oysters three ways alongside crab prepared three ways.

Enjoy our signature wines like Oyster White, Pearl, Rosie, and Shelter Dog Red while settling in beside one of the Chesapeake Bay’s most celebrated foodie destinations at The Hope & Glory Inn.

This isn’t your typical wine trail stop. It’s a relaxed, elegant, coastal lunch experience built around great wine, fresh seafood, and the kind of hospitality that makes you want to linger awhile.

Weekend Hours:
Friday | 2–6 PM
Saturday | 12–6 PM

Some places leave an impression long after you’ve gone. Not just because of the food or the setting, but because of the people behind it all.

Reviews like this from guests like Jaimee S. mean the world to us because they capture exactly what Dudley, Peggy, Stuart, and the entire team hope every guest feels when they visit The Dog & Oyster and The Hope & Glory Inn.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ — Jaimee S.

“We had such a lovely experience at The Dog and Oyster. You can immediately tell this place is something truly special and personal to the people who created it. Dudley and Peggy were absolutely wonderful hosts. They were so warm, welcoming, and genuinely excited to share the story behind the property, the restaurant, and the inn. Hearing about the history and little details from them made the experience feel so much more meaningful and memorable.

The property itself is beautiful, peaceful, and charming in a way that feels both elegant and comfortable at the same time. You can really feel the care and passion that has gone into every part of it.

We also have to mention Stuart, the grill master, who was fantastic as well. He was incredibly kind and made some seriously delicious food. Everyone there made us feel like guests in their home rather than customers at a restaurant.

Between the atmosphere, the wine, the oysters, and the genuinely lovely people behind it all, this ended up being one of those places you leave already wanting to come back to. Highly recommend making the trip out there."

Introducing the May Menu at The Colonnade ✨

Thoughtfully crafted by Chef Meseret Crockett, this three-course experience welcomes the arrival of late-spring with a menu rooted in classic technique and seasonal elegance.

It begins with a velvety Vichyssoise — Yukon Gold potatoes, white onions, and leeks puréed to perfection and served chilled, just as tradition calls for this time of year.

For the entrée, you may choose between a rich and savory lamb remoulade served over creamy petite portabello mushroom risotto with haricot verts, or baked halibut topped with Espagnole sauce, set atop a bed of ratatouille and accompanied by haricot verts.

The experience concludes with a traditional panna cotta, finished with a bright berry coulis — an elegant and refreshing end to the meal.

The May Menu offers a thoughtful balance of comfort and sophistication — an invitation to slow down, settle in, and savor the evening in Visit Irvington VA.

The May Menu is $95 per person. Alcohol, service charge, and taxes are not included and will be applied to your folio.

The Colonnade is open Thursday through Sunday with seatings at 6:30 PM and 7:00 PM. Reservations are required. Please call 804-436-3876 to secure your table.

The Oyster Crawl starts here.

Join us this weekend at the Dog & Oyster Micro-Vineyard & Oyster Bar at The Hope & Glory Inn and be among the first to experience Oyster Chef Stuart Tyson’s all-new menus—crafted for the season and designed to pair perfectly with our award-winning Virginia wines.

As part of the Chesapeake Bay Wine Trail's Annual Spring Oyster Crawl, spend the weekend exploring seven premier wineries across Virginia’s coastal wine country, all celebrating the timeless pairing of wine and oysters. After one stop—or a few—you’ll understand exactly why Virginia is for lovers… of wine and oysters.

At the Dog & Oyster, this pairing isn’t just a weekend tradition—it’s what we do all season long. For over 16 years, we’ve been refining the art of pairing Virginia wines with Virginia oysters, creating an experience that’s as thoughtful as it is delicious.

We’re pouring wines intentionally crafted to complement oysters, alongside favorites like our Bloody Mary Oyster Shooter, Champagne & Oyster, and more. It’s everything you love about Coastal Virginia, brought together in one place.

And the best part? The season begins now. We reopen this Friday and roll right into a weekend of fresh flavors, coastal air, and good company.
