Happy New Year, Young Entrepreneur Detailers! 🚗✨
As we step into 2024, a fresh chapter unfolds in our entrepreneurial journey. With over 39 years in the auto detailing and appearance industry, am here to guide you through setting impactful goals that will not only ensure your survival but guarantee your detailing business thrives in the year ahead. Below are some goals you may want to consider implementing if you have not already done so:
1. Website Review for SEO and Content
Take time to audit your website. Is it optimized for search engines? Does your content accurately represent your brand and services? A strong online presence is key to attracting more clients. Check to be sure each page has a unique title tag and description tag that reflects the content of those pages. Update your content and images to keep your website fresh. The search engines love fresh content. Update your photo gallery and make sure your customer reviews are displayed on your home page. It is important that your website is "Mobile First" - most of your prospects will find your business’ website through their mobile devices. Be sure your phone number is easy to find and when tapped, it will connect to you.
2. Social Media Engagement
Evaluate your social media platforms. Are you consistently engaging your audience? Your social media should not just showcase your work, but also tell your brand's story and connect with your community. Be sure you publish short videos of your best work. Video recording your customer during the walkaround checking out your amazing work and publishing it on social media goes a long way. Be sure all your social media platforms are updated and kept active. If you are too busy to do that then hire someone that has the skill to help you manage all of your social media platforms. Look into Hootsuite and Zapier as they are great management tools for all of your social media platforms.
3. CRM Platforms Utilization
Tools like URABLE or Detail Bookie are essential. Are you leveraging all their features? A robust CRM system streamlines your business processes, making client management more efficient. As a small business owner, you are taking phone calls, meeting with customers, delegating tasks with employees, doing payroll, managing your social media, attending networking meetings, doing the detailing work - it is critical you have a great CRM tool! A CRM tool is like having a secretary to do all the administrative and marketing tasks and only paying about $3 a day versus $150 per day, it's a NO BRAINER!
4. Financial Management Strength
Implement or upgrade your accounting software. Understanding the financial health of your business is crucial. Accurate and efficient financial management leads to informed business decisions. Without an accounting software system like QuickBooks Online or Sage, it will be like walking through a dark tunnel without lighting. Forget Google Sheets this new year and convert to an actual accounting system. You will be so glad you did.
5. Referral Rewards Program
Create or revamp your referral program. Word-of-mouth is a powerful tool. A structured referral program can significantly boost your client base without huge marketing expenses. Organically you will receive referrals, probably a few every month. Having an actual Referral Rewards Program will drastically increase your referrals while reducing your marketing costs. Reward your customers for sending you customers, it’s a Win - Win - Win!
6. Consistent Customer Reviews
Have a plan to collect customer reviews regularly. Positive reviews build trust and credibility, attracting more customers to your business. Your CRM tool should be able to request customer reviews and send out reminders to help facilitate customer reviews. Better yet - call your customer the day after to follow up and remind them about submitting their customer review. Your goal for 2024 should be to receive reviews from at least 80% of your customers. Don't be shy, ask for those reviews and hopefully they will all be 5 Stars!
7. Networking and Community Involvement
Engage with local communities and networks. Building relationships can lead to partnerships, collaborations, and new opportunities. Join a networking group and collaborate with other like-minded individuals. If you have not become a member of your local Chamber Of Commerce now is the time to join it. Get your business in front of other local businesses, you may be surprised with how much new business you acquire.
8. Continuous Learning and Skill Enhancement
Stay updated with the latest trends and techniques in auto detailing. Consider workshops or seminars to enhance your skills and services. Don't get stagnant, keep learning and growing. Every vehicle on the road in your area is a potential revenue stream for you. Keep learning how to acquire new customers, offer new services and keep them coming back to you more than ever before in 2024!
9. Personal Well-being and Work-Life Balance
Remember, your personal health and well-being are vital. A balanced life leads to increased creativity and productivity. Eat healthily, try to lay the off fast foods, and eat more fruit, vegetables, and nuts. Join a gym and set up a routine where you are doing cardio at least 5 times a week. Hitting up the gym will not only keep you in shape, but it will relieve stress and help keep your mind clear.
10. Maintenance Services and Loyalty Programs
Promoting maintenance detailing and ceramic coating services after the initial appointment offers several advantages. These strategies can lead to increased customer loyalty, higher revenue, and enhanced reputation. Offering maintenance services encourages customers to return regularly, fostering long-term relationships.
Consistent quality service builds trust, making customers more likely to seek your services for future needs. Regular maintenance appointments provide a more predictable and steady income stream compared to one-time detailing jobs.
Each visit is an opportunity to upsell additional services or packages. As you know regular maintenance detailing helps in preserving the vehicle's appearance and can potentially increase its resale value.
Customizing maintenance plans according to the customer's specific needs can significantly enhance satisfaction. Implementing loyalty programs for regular maintenance can encourage repeat visits. Regular maintenance ensures that the vehicles consistently look their best, reflecting positively on your brand. Regular clients allow for better scheduling and time management.
Clients perceive greater value in a service that is comprehensive and protects their investment. Regular interactions with clients provide valuable feedback for service improvement. Being in regular contact allows you to adapt your services based on customer preferences and market trends. At least 30% of your detailing revenues should be “maintenance details.”
11. Hire the Right Employees and Provide Comprehensive Training
You cannot do it all yourself! You can, but you will not grow your business. Some business owners are happy being in control and not depending on others to do the work. If you focus on making great hires, take the time to train them your way, and incentivize them for performing great work your life as a business owner will be so much more gratifying. It's all about hiring the right person with the best attitude. The skill can be taught, but the attitude will be hard to adjust. I would hire detailers with ZERO experience but had a great attitude and wanted to learn and grow with the company. Most of my employees were with me between 7 - 13 years. None of them had any detailing experience when I hired them. Hiring employees with experience tends to bring their bad habits with them and they are hard to break.
12. Google Business Profile
Your GBP is as just important as your website, if not more important. It is imperative that you keep it enriched with updated content, videos, photos of your work, your services displayed as products with links back to your website. Your customer reviews will live on your GBP and of course should help your listing rank high on Maps. It is a must to keep your GBP updated, take care of it as it is a garden that needs light, fertilizer and water. If your garden plants are kept in the dark without food and water they will die. Don't let your Google Business Profile die in 2024, keep it alive and flourishing!
As we embark on this new year, remember that your journey as an entrepreneur is unique. Your dedication to craftsmanship is commendable but balancing it with strong business acumen is what will set you apart. Embrace these goals, and let's make 2024 a landmark year for our businesses.
What are some of your goals for 2024?
To a year of growth, success, and excellence!
Cheers,
Nick Vacco
