She said "yes"! We're beyond thrilled for Sarah and Robert. They're a beautiful couple in all ways: individually amazing humans, and together full of love, support, mutual respect, adventure, and kindness.

Family is everything to me. The "why" behind much of what I do. To witness family happiness, growth, and goodness makes my heart full.

Congratulations on your engagement Sarah and Robert! The best is yet to come and I'm honored and lucky to be a part of your lives. 💍🎉❤️

(Sharing some personal news on my business page because part of my purpose in work is having and helping others have time for what matters most.

Taking off work for a few days to go help these two celebrate their engagement was prioritized, planned and executed (deep undercover at first so we didn't ruin the surprise). It made for a few very full work days on either side of this time, but I am blessed to have built a business and life that allows for freedom and flexibility.

I love the work I do, AND I love to be there for and with my family.)

Democracy, decency, freedom, equal rights, due process, justice, body autonomy, our constitution, help for those in need, integrity, honesty, doing the right thing - just a few things on my mind today.

It feels a little surreal that life is beginning to resemble distopian fiction and taking us back to horrific historical times that we can never forget but that I had hoped we'd learned from. And here we are.

I'll continue to stand up and speak out when basic liberties are jeopardized. I do it for me, for those I care about, and for those who can not do so for themselves.

Sometimes the smartest way to move forward… is to slow down.

Over the weekend, I prepared a small but meaningful Passover Seder. Just four of us, but I still made all the traditional dishes from scratch. I could have taken shortcuts, but I had the time, attention, and energy to take the leisurely route.

Honestly, the process brought me joy. I enjoyed every moment.

The chopping. The simmering. The matzo balls (recipe by Jake Cohen and shared by Katie Couric. Interested? Drop a comment below and I'll send it to you!)

This experience reminded me of a powerful productivity principle: Knowing when to go slow can help us unlock both meaning and momentum.

In this week’s blog post, I reflect on that lesson and share a practical tip you can apply right away in your work or life.

Cory Booker (and John Lewis) said it best ... Let's get into some good trouble. The power of the people, not the people in power. It's not about right and left, it's about right and wrong.

This morning there was no other place I felt I should be than amongst friends, my parents, my husband and my community as we showed up en mass to stand up and speak out against rights being stripped away from people, aid that's being cut for those in need, greed, congress and due process being bypassed and to bring decency back.

I want to be able to tell my future grandchildren that I fought for what was right, I did something, and didn't sit quietly or idly by.

Tuesday Tip: Unplug to Recharge

What if stepping away from your screen could give you back something better?

Last Spring, I visited the annual Tulip Festival in La Conner, Washington, and was reminded how powerful it is to unplug and be present. I can't wait to go again this month.

Inspired by that, I’m inviting you to join me in the Screen-Free Sundays: Digital Detox Challenge this April.

One day a week, we’ll commit to stepping away from devices. No emails. No scrolling. No notifications. Curious to see what happens when we reclaim our time and focus? Consider this a science experiment. Test and measure.

I've shared more about the challenge in my latest blog post. Read it here: https://www.itssimplyplaced.com/unplug-to-recharge-join-the-screen-free-sundays-challenge/

And here’s the best part: I’m offering this challenge for free to my email list this month so you can try out the It’s About Time group and experience the benefits firsthand.

Want in? Drop a comment or DM me and I'll get you set up. I’d love to have you join us!

Practice Presence

Ever feel like you’re being pulled in a hundred different directions? Between emails, notifications, and constant distractions, it can feel impossible to focus.

That’s why practicing presence is a game-changer. When we’re fully engaged in the moment, whether it’s tackling a project, having a conversation, or taking a walk, we get more done, feel less stressed, and enjoy life more.

This picture of two-year-old me stopping to smell the roses? It’s a perfect reminder that presence isn’t just a productivity strategy, it’s a way to make life richer and more meaningful.

In my latest blog post, I’m sharing simple strategies to help you be more present and productive, from using a timer to clearing mental clutter.

Tuesday Tip: Ask, How Can This Be Easy?

Stop Overcomplicating Work. There's a Simpler Way to Be More Productive

Ever spend too much time on something that ultimately didn’t matter? A recent trip reminded me (Debbie) of the power of letting go.

With naturally curly hair in a humid climate, I had a choice: spend time blow-drying and styling, only to have my efforts undone in minutes, or embrace my hair’s natural texture. I chose ease, saving time and energy for what truly mattered.

The same applies to work. We often overcomplicate tasks, chase perfection, or cling to inefficient processes. Instead of forcing what isn’t working, simplify.

How to Stop Overcomplicating Work and Start Flowing:

✅ Eliminate Unnecessary Steps – Streamline workflows, cut redundant tasks, and automate.

✅ Prioritize What Matters – Not everything needs perfection. Focus on high-impact work.

✅ Work With (Not Against) Strengths – Leverage resources and delegate when possible.

✅ Recognize When “Good Enough” is Enough – Don’t let perfection slow you down.

By letting go of what doesn’t serve you, you create space for what does. Where are you overcomplicating work? What can you simplify today?

Can I help you explore how increase productivity could be easy, fun and rewarding for you? Comment "easier way" below and I'll reach out to schedule a complimentary Discovery Call. It would be my honor. And isn't it About Time?

Tuesday Tip: Say "no".

One word can change everything about how you manage your time, energy, and priorities: NO.

This photo of Debbie at Lake Como, Italy, represents a dream come true; a month-long sabbatical she took for the first time in her career. Making it happen meant saying "no" to spending money, a significant speaking engagement, client work, and other opportunities that didn't align with this bigger "yes" for the time being.

Why Saying No Matters:
*Protects your priorities
*Frees up time for what truly matters
*Reduces stress and overwhelm

Tips for Saying No:
- Be clear on your goals.
- Use polite, firm language: "Thanks, but I can't commit right now."
- Practice with small "no's" to build confidence.

Every "no" is a gift of time and energy for your most important "yes." What could saying "no" make possible for you?

Read more in today's newsletter. Didn't get one in your inbox? Comment "send it" and message me your email address and we'll fix that right away so you don't miss a thing.

Tuesday Tip: Leverage the Fresh Start Effect

You Don’t Need January 1 to Start Fresh

Last Friday was National Quitters Day—a day when many people have already given up on their New Year’s resolutions. But here’s the truth: fresh starts aren’t limited to January 1.

A fresh start can happen any time:
A new season
A birthday or anniversary
The start of a month (or even a Monday!)
Every morning when you wake up

Here’s how to make the most of the Fresh Start Effect:

💡Reflect: What went well? What was hard? What do you want more (or less) of?

💡Set clear goals: Be specific and connect to your “why.”

💡Take action: Start small, plan for obstacles, and build routines that help you succeed.

Every day is an opportunity to reset and refocus. What fresh start will YOU choose today? Share in the comments below.

Tuesday Tip: Shake Things Up to Get New Results

Last year held some wonderful highlights for me: Eddie graduated college, moved to the Bay area with his girlfriend, landed a great job and got a dog (I have a Granddog!). Sarah was accepted into her dream Master’s program in Child and Adolescent Psychology at the University of Washington, moving with her boyfriend from San Francisco back to Seattle.

I also had the privilege of taking beautiful trips and spending good time with family in Alaska, California, and Hawaii. But like everyone else, the year also came with challenges that weighed on me.

As the New Year approached, I realized I needed to shake things up. I wanted to start the year in a way I hadn’t before, so I planned something different: a mini Solo Retreat.

This get-away was an experience of “both can be true” harmony, a lovely way to bring in the New Year. It included:
*Mountain views and beach walks
*Thinking and planning
*Moving my body and being still
*Being in the light and being in the dark
*Healthy nourishment and a little indulgence (dark chocolate!)
*Connecting (w/ loved ones) & disconnecting (from social media)
*Closure to one year and embarking on a new one
*Holding on and letting go

For two days, I carved out quiet time for myself. This intentional space allowed me to engage all my senses and appreciate life without distractions. Here are some of the highlights of my retreat:
*Sweating: Moving my body felt energizing and cleansing.
*Feeling the rain on my skin: A grounding reminder of nature’s beauty.
*Reading: I devoured two books and let my mind explore new ideas.
*Journaling: Putting pen to paper helped me reflect and plan.
*Sleeping and resting: I gave myself permission to fully recharge.
*Listening and believing: I tuned into my inner voice and trusted what it had to say.

While I wouldn’t want to spend every New Year solo, this retreat felt deeply restorative. It was an opportunity to welcome the year on my terms.

I’m so grateful to my friends who opened their space for me and to Rob for understanding my need to take this time.

What Do You Need to Shake Up This Year?
If you’re craving new results, consider what you might do to shake things up. Maybe it’s creating intentional solitude, trying an activity you’ve never done before, or reevaluating the habits that no longer serve you. The key is stepping out of your usual routine to make space for something new.

Want to talk about what you will you do to break the mold and start your year in a way that feels right for you? Let’s explore how to make 2025 a year of intentional, meaningful change. https://simplyplaced.as.me/DiscoveryCall
