Social Business Consulting stands firmly with the members of the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community against the terrifying and heartbreaking surge of violence against the AAPI community nationwide. We are deeply concerned by the rise of hate crimes against the AAPI community, which rose by 149% over the last year, which have particularly impacted AAPI women and seniors throughout the country. Acts of violence such as those in Atlanta against Xiaojie Tan, Daoyou Feng, Soon Chung Park, Hyun Jung Grant, Suncha Kim, and Yong Ae Yue only illustrate the pernicious effects of Anti-AAPI hate and white supremacy. SBC condemns acts of violence against the AAPI community as well as the hateful rhetoric which has contributed to the marginalization of AAPI individuals across the country. We stand in solidarity with AAPI activists in their struggle for equitable treatment and respect.
We call upon our peers and fellow Cornellians to leverage their networks, influence, privilege, and resources to support the AAPI community through active allyship wherever possible. We further encourage you to take direct action to dismantle prejudicial and xenophobic notions against the AAPI community. Moreover, we hope that our members and peers continue to engage and advance racial dialogues within their own social circles. Passivity and inaction not only allows such hateful acts to pervade our lives, but also actively hinders the advancement of much needed activism for the AAPI community. During such divisive times, it is of paramount importance that we come together in solidarity with the AAPI community in order to create a more inclusive future.
Social Business Consulting has prided itself in creating a space that fosters social impact through a shared commitment to community, diversity, and mutual recognition -- we strive to further promote these values amongst our members and the Cornell community as a whole. However, we recognize the pervasive impacts of prejudice that have shaped the Cornell business community and acknowledge our responsibility in addressing these inequities. We pledge to reflect on the subconscious biases held within our own organization, educate ourselves, hold our members accountable, and stand firmly for justice in the fight against racial inequity.
