Can you help us, fellow Ithacan? 😌

This week featured , our app meant to help Ithacans make informed choices about where to go 📍 for things like dining out or grocery shopping.

“We’ve changed our minds about when to go based on the app. We’ve been avoiding crowds, partly because of COVID but also just to avoid the gong show that happens when too many Ithacans go to the same place at the same time”, users reported. 📰

So, what is 🤖🤔

Our team had a meeting with the Center for Hybrid Intelligence from Aarhus Universitet to discuss possibilities and ethical challenges in developing models that put humans at the center when interacting with machines.

Thanks for having us!

Ok, so we can't invite all 40,000 catchers to meet us at the office, but we wanted to show you around. Mike Capraro, whom you may know from the Stall Catchers leaderboard as Caprarom, visited us to celebrate our fifth anniversary and joined us on a tour of Cornell University's Schaffer-Nishimura Lab...

So grateful and humbled by “super catcher” volunteers caprarom and CarolakaMema who have been recognized by SciStarter as their top contributors for 2021. They support and inspire us on Stall Catchers every day 🙏

Thousands contributed to citizen science projects on SciStarter last year. But some people logged hundreds of thousands of contributions by themselves.

Still wondering about the humans behind the Stall Catchers bots? 🤖
Meet Laura Onac - the author of GAIA and one of the winners of the clog loss challenge! 🏆
She is a graduate student about to complete her master’s program in Applied Computational Intelligence. Laura has been working as a Machine Learning Engineer for the past two years. She is experienced in solving natural language processing and computer vision tasks using machine learning. 💻

And GAIA makes three! Some of you might remember Laura Onac’s bot, GAIA, as she was the first bot EVER to play Stall Catchers. Wow, time flies! GAIA was able to compete once again in our most recent Bot Study. Since this Bot Study was a chance to test what human and bot catchers could accomplish t...

Do you ever wonder who created the bots that play alongside the human catchers? 🤖
Meet Kirill Brodt, one of the bot developers! Kirill created the bot, kbrodt, and was the second place winner of the clog loss challenge! 🏆
Currently, he is doing research at the University of Montréal in Computer Graphics where he is using Machine Learning for problem solving. Currently, he is working on posing 3D characters via gesture drawings! He got his Masters in Mathematics at the Novosibirsk State University in Russia. When he fell in love with machine learning, he enrolled in Yandex School of Data Analysis and Computer Science Center. This led him to develop and teach the first open Deep Learning course in Russian!

Onto the next! We will be interviewing another one of our “Bot Makers” in this second installment of our three part series. In the last blog post, we had the opportunity to speak with Roman Solovyev about his bot ZFTurbo. ZFTurbo was able to help us out quite a lot in our most recent Bot Study i...
