At exactly 8:03 a.m. this morning, our internal outage monitoring system alerted us to possible damage on a mainline fiber serving the Dennis, Belmont, and Golden areas.

Based on which customers were affected, our team determined that the fiber had sustained sporadic damage somewhere along the line. Customers on portions of County Road 17, County Road 416, County Road 26, County Road 32, and County Road 53 experienced an immediate loss of internet service.

Our technicians began tracing the line and located the damage on Old Highway 25. The damage appears to have been caused by a bullet striking the fiber.

Because of the extent and location of the damage, five spans of our high-count 144-count fiber will need to be replaced. Our crews are currently hanging the replacement fiber in preparation for the repair.

Completing the repair will require the damaged fiber to be cut and spliced. During that process, customers in Belmont, Golden, and Dennis may experience additional service disruptions, including a complete loss of internet service.

To minimize the impact to customers, our technicians plan to begin the final splicing work after midnight tonight and will continue working throughout the night until repairs are completed.

We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience while our crews work to restore and secure the affected fiber line.

Beginning tomorrow morning (7-29-26) at 8:30 a.m., our crews will be repairing a damaged section of mainline fiber serving the Mingo and Carter’s Branch areas of the county.

This damage is related to the same incident that caused the power outage affecting the area earlier this week.

The work will require us to re-hang and resplice a new section of fiber, and customers in the affected area should expect a service outage lasting up to four hours.

We appreciate your patience while our crews complete these necessary repairs and restore service as quickly as possible.
