During Winter Storm Fern, Cornerstone Public Adjusting & Consulting was engaged by a commercial building owner after ice and snow loading damaged the roof system.

Within a few hours of the initial phone call, Antonio Simpson and his team were in motion to document the loss on behalf of Cornerstone. From day one, he used the latest technology to rapidly scan and document both interior and exterior building conditions, worked alongside emergency restoration contractors to help ensure site stabilization and safety, and met directly with engineers so the damage could be evaluated thoroughly and accurately.

Antonio’s professionalism throughout the process stood out. His ability to work constructively with the insurance company, while firmly advocating for the policyholder’s interests, helped secure a settlement of over $950,000 within 10 days of our engagement.

This is exactly why experienced public adjuster representation matters for commercial losses:

• Commercial claims are complex, technical, and time sensitive

• Early documentation, technology driven inspection, and expert coordination can materially impact outcomes

• Policyholders need an advocate focused solely on their interests

• Professional communication and disciplined negotiation can accelerate resolution and protect business continuity

When significant property damage affects operations, delay and under scoping can be costly. Professional representation helps keep the claim process moving with clarity, structure, and accountability.

Did your roof claim get denied because of a "Cosmetic Exclusion"? Insurers are using strict new policy clauses to reject storm damage claims.

To assist consumers affected by the severe winter weather, we're sharing consumer insurance/winter storm information.

-File your insurance claim as soon as possible. Call your insurance company or agent with your policy number and other relevant information. Your policy may require that you make the notification within a certain time frame.

- Cooperate fully with the insurance company. Ask what documents, forms, and data you will need to file a claim. Keep notes detailing the name of the person you spoke with and the day, time and content of all conversations with insurance companies, creditors and relief agencies.

-Be certain to give your insurance company all the information they request. Giving partial information will only cause a delay or incomplete processing your claim.

-Document the disaster by taking photographs or video of any damage.

-Unfairly denied a claim? Contact our team at (615) 741-2218 or file a complaint online.

- Limit travel and time spent outdoors.

-Contact your local emergency management agency if you need immediate assistance.

Failure to Match Isn’t Just a Scope Issue Anymore ⚖️

A Tennessee court has ruled that a jury may decide whether punitive damages are appropriate when an insurer refuses to properly match materials.

This reinforces what many of us already know, matching is not optional, and bad faith conduct can have serious consequences.

Details matter. Documentation matters. And now, so does accountability ⚖️

In Hester v. State Farm Fire & Casualty Co., 2025 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 174539 (M.D. Tenn. Sept. 8, 2025), the Middle District of Tennessee declined to

The rule of thumb for pipes bursting is 4-6 hours straight of temperatures 20°F or colder. We will hit that for Indiana and the Deep South.

NEXT WEEK: Monday and Tuesday

This map not only accounts for the required cold temperatures required, but also how well homes are insulated. For example, Minnesota will easily be cold enough for pipes to burst. However, homes are built to withstand this type of cold, more so than homes farther south.

The last time we were this cold, we had several pipes burst in central and southern Indiana.

The threat is the highest for much of the Tennessee River Valley and the southern Ohio River Valley.

Make sure you leave sink cabinet doors open, turn on your faucets to leave a stream the size of the width of the lead inside a pencil (faucets on exterior walls and farthest from the water heater), name insulate your outdoor spigots.
