WINTER STORM WARNING:
Large parts of the Southeastern United States (including MO, MS, TN, AR, KY, AL, GA) will experience a severe winter storm with forecasts of 6 to 12 inches or more of ice and snow accumulations, along with frigid outdoor temperatures ranging from -1 to -10 degrees Fahrenheit.
It’s time to take action to safeguard your property and investments from this winter storm which may cause:
1) power outages from overload or service line failure
2) frozen and burst pipes
3) water leaks from thawing ice and snow
4) structural compromise or collapse from excessive snow and ice load.
The cornerstone to avoiding property losses is prepreparing the property for what it is likely to encounter; take these steps to protect your property from this winter storm:
1) ensure pipes are well-insulated and exposed to room temperature air by opening up cabinets, or heating that local area which is otherwise not climate controlled by a safe and adequate heat source,
2) ensure roof drainage and gutter systems are free and clear of contaminants and debris that might otherwise create a clog or assist in the formation of ice damming
3) review power outage procedures and create a plan to bring critical infrastructure online by another power source, and to mitigate damage to the structure and operations in the event of a limited power supply or no power supply for 1-3 days. Remember, not all properties are equally constructed and designed and some may suffer from weather events differently than others. When in doubt, reach out to trusted professionals to review the property for risks and guidance on preparing for these risk events.
In the unfortunate event you do experience a loss, be sure to capture photos and videos of the event and the damage that you are experiencing and describe in detail what is being shown or taking place while actively engaging in any mitigation steps available to minimize or prevent further loss. Once you have done what you can, reach out to trusted professionals for assistance and guidance on evaluating the damage sustained and mitigating further losses to the property.
Bundle up and be prepared. Stay safe out there this winter season.
