Consumer Energy has once again moved forward with a rate increase on the first available day, adding to a long history of rising electricity costs for customers. With each passing year, energy bills continue to increase, leaving farms and businesses with fewer options to control expenses.

The $456 million rate increase request comes on the heels of the utility wining permission to implement its largest power rate hike in more than two decades in March.
