How do you intentionally make someone’s day a little better?

Every customer who walks through your door is carrying something you may never know about.

They may be celebrating a great day. They may be struggling just to make it through the day. And sometimes, one simple interaction can make more of a difference than we realize.

A genuine smile. A little patience. Taking the time to listen. Being willing to help instead of making someone feel like a burden.

Those moments matter.

We may not be able to change everything happening in someone’s life, but we can choose what kind of experience they have with us.

That’s why I try to live by a simple principle: Leave every person at least 1% better than I before our interaction.

Customer service isn’t only about the transaction. It’s about how people feel because they encountered you.

Let me say this—being behind the chair is bigger than cuts, styles, and services. Every day, people sit in front of you and trust you with real conversations—life, stress, grief, burnout, family issues, and everything in between.

That’s why I created Beyond the Chair.

This training is for barbers, cosmetologists, nail techs, estheticians, salon owners, instructors, and beauty school professionals who want to be better prepared to recognize when someone may be struggling, listen without judgment, and respond with care and confidence.

Now let me be clear—you’re not becoming a therapist. But you are becoming someone who knows how to show up, support, and help guide people to the right resources when it matters most.
