Happy Labor Day from the Solid Waste & Recycling team! Please note our holiday closure.

The Trash Transfer Station will be open as usual on Saturday (from 8 a.m. to noon) and will be back at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 8.

Community recycling sites are open 24-7 through the weekend, but if bins are full, please use a different site or hold onto your recyclables until our crew has a chance to empty them. Thanks for recycling!

🚧 RECYCLING CENTER CONSTRUCTION BEGINS SEPT. 2

Construction on a new truck scale is expected to continue through September and October. The Recycling Center will remain open, but customers may experience limited parking, temporary delays and traffic changes.

Please drive slowly and follow all signs and directions. For standard recycling, consider using a Community Recycling Site or visiting after hours or on weekends. The Recycling Center office will be OPEN during regular business hours for residential compost, e-waste, office-paper shredding and other services.

Old Bill’s Fun Run is coming up and Teton County Integrated Solid Waste & Recycling is once again participating.

As an enterprise fund, Teton County ISWR relies on sales of recyclables, service fees and community support -- not property taxes. For more than 35 years, your support has helped build and sustain Jackson’s Community Recycling and Road to Zero Waste programs.

Find us at Old Bill’s on Sept. 12, and considering donating through Old Bill's giving season to support our valley’s efforts to reduce, reuse, recycle and compost.

Did you notice that directional signs are back at the community recycling sites? We want to make it as easy as possible for residents and visitors to help us sort it out and reduce contimination. (Sorted materials and less contaimination = better price for these commodities in the reycling markets.)

Community recycling sites can be found at Albertsons, Teton County/Jackson Recreation Center parking lot, the Rodeo Grounds, Spring Gulch Road, Hoback Junction, The Aspens, and Teton Village. DON’T FREESTYLE THE FREON. 🎿
Refrigerant-containing appliances require special handling.

Teton County Integrated Solid Waste & Recycling (ISWR) is reminding customers about proper disposal requirements for appliances containing refrigerant (Freon), including, but not limited to, refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, water coolers, dehumidifiers, ice machines, and beverage coolers.

Customers bringing these appliances to the Teton County Transfer Station have two options for disposal: paying a $40 refrigerant recovery fee or presenting documentation showing that the refrigerant has already been recovered by a qualified technician.

Refrigerant-containing appliances should remain upright whenever possible. Customers should not cut refrigerant lines, remove compressors, or attempt to recover refrigerant themselves.

Federal law requires refrigerants to be recovered by an EPA Section 608 Certified Technician using approved equipment before these appliances can be recycled. The $40 refrigerant recovery fee applies unless customers provide documentation showing that the refrigerant has already been professionally recovered. Customers who have documentation should present it to the scale operator before unloading the appliance.

• Smaller items or amounts: Recycling Center during business hours
• Large pieces or loads: Trash Transfer Station during operating hours (just tell the scale operator what you have, and they'll point you in the right direction; you'll have to unload yourself)

🎯 Challenge issued. Challenge accepted.

For our 35th anniversary year, we challenged Jackson Hole to reach 35% waste diversion — our 35 in 35 challenge.
⠀
We didn’t quite hit 35%, but we definitely moved the needle.
⠀
Teton County’s waste diversion rate reached 33.4% in FY2026, up nearly 3 percentage points in one year — and 4.5 points since FY2024.
⠀
And the gains showed up across all of the 3Cs:

🥫 Aluminum cans: +30%
🥫 Steel & tin cans: +6%
📦 Cardboard: +16%
🍎 Food-waste composting: +32%

YOU did that. More cans recycled. More cardboard recovered. More food scraps composted. 🙌
