A Claim Accuracy Request (CAR) lets accredited advocates flag an obvious error and ask the VA to fix it fastβ€” without the wait time of one of the regular decision review options.

It's not a substitute for HLR, Supplemental Claims, or Board Appeals. It's a tactical scalpel for when the error is clear, the law is on your side, and you need it corrected fast.

When used right, CARs can:
βœ… Correct effective date errors before they cost you years of back pay
βœ… Catch overlooked claims and missed contentions
βœ… Fix obvious math and rating calculation mistakes

A CAR must be submitted by an accredited advocate within 30 calendar days of the VA’s notification letter date. the VA aims to issue decisions on CARs within 30 days instead of the 125+ day average for standard reviews.

🀯 DID YOU KNOW?

Once you hit 30% VA disability rating or higher, the VA will pay you MORE money every single month β€” just for having dependents on your award? πŸ’°

And a shocking number of veterans have never added their dependents. That means they’ve been leaving guaranteed monthly compensation on the table β€” sometimes for years.

β€”

πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦ Who counts as a dependent for VA purposes?

βœ… Spouse (including common-law in qualifying states)

βœ… Biological, adopted, or stepchildren under 18

βœ… Children 18–23 still in school full-time

βœ… Children of any age who became permanently disabled before age 18

βœ… A dependent parent β€” yes, your parents can qualify too

β€”

πŸ’΅ What does it actually pay?

The additional monthly amounts vary by rating and dependent type, but here’s a snapshot at 100% combined rating:

πŸ“Œ Spouse only β†’ +$191/mo
πŸ“Œ Spouse + 1 child β†’ +$261/mo
πŸ“Œ Each additional child β†’ +$75–$85/mo
πŸ“Œ Dependent parent (one) β†’ +$191/mo
πŸ“Œ Dependent parent (two) β†’ +$295/mo

πŸ”’ That math adds up FAST over 12 months β€” and even faster if you should have added them years ago.

While some claims are approved on the initial submission, many veterans find that the process involves multiple stages of review. It's not uncommon for claims to face initial denials, requiring appeals and additional supporting evidence.

Patience and persistence are key when navigating the complexities of the veterans' disability claims system.
