Happy International HR Day from the HR Chique Group.

Today recognizes a profession that operates with very little public visibility and an enormous amount of responsibility. HR practitioners manage compliance, culture, conflict, and change, often within the same week, and frequently within the same day. The decisions made in HR offices affect hiring outcomes, retention, employee wellbeing, and the long-term health of organizations.

The HR Chique Group was founded to support the professionals doing this work, whether as a team of one inside a growing company, a fractional consultant serving multiple clients, or an executive shaping people strategy at scale. We see the discipline this profession requires, and we have a great deal of respect for the practitioners who carry it.

One thing I learned through Verizon Business Digital Ready is that expertise is important, but knowing how to clearly pitch your business matters too.

Am I doing work that honors the people who shaped me? As Founder of the @, that’s the question I’ve asked as February and Black History Month comes to a close. Black History Month is not about recognition for me. It is about leadership.

I think about my mother, my grandmother and the women and servant leaders in my community who carried more than they could handle. They showed up every day. They made sure others had what they needed. They led without titles, awards and without applause. That example remains as a remainder for me to always lead through serving.

This year I am focusing more on serving through community. Helping professionals move toward better opportunities. Supporting organizations as they examine leadership, accountability, performance, and culture. The goal is not visibility. The goal is to make things better for the people inside our system of the work world. Leadership is learned by example. By practicing. By choosing integrity and civility when no one is watching. The way I show up now is what my children, nieces, and nephews will remember later as their blueprint and legacy. Legacy is not a speech. It is a pattern of who you are.

If I am not lifting as I climb, then I am not leading. Legacy is measured in who rises after you. I am Black History!

Today is not simply a day off. It is a day of reflection and purpose.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy reminds us that progress is achieved through thoughtful action, principled leadership, and a shared commitment to dignity and fairness. His work challenged systems, elevated voices, and encouraged this nation to more fully live its values.

This day matters because the work of equity, respect, and opportunity continues. Advancing these ideals requires ongoing learning, collaboration, and the willingness to lead with empathy and integrity. Peace, as Dr. King taught, is built through justice and understanding.

At , we recognize this day as an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to creating environments where people are valued, supported, and able to thrive. We encourage reflection, service, and meaningful dialogue as ways to honor Dr. King’s enduring impact.

Birthdays are a great time for reflection, and I’m feeling grateful for the journey so far both personally and in building this business. Every year brings new challenges, new lessons, and, most importantly, new connections with incredible clients, partners, and colleagues.
