Fifty-five years ago, on May 12, 1962, General of the Army Douglas MacArthur, age 82, delivered his farewell address to the cadets at West Point.

In accepting the school’s Sylvanus Thayer Medal for outstanding service to his country, MacArthur organized his speech around the sacred motto of West Point: “Duty, Honor, Country.” It was the last public act of a military career that spanned more than a half-century.

As important today--if not more so--than that day so many years ago.

Meanwhile, Baghdad has ordered Iraqi-Kurdistan to 'surrender its airports' by Friday noon, Erbil has responded saying that Kurdistan rejects Iraq's demand to hand over airports.

Also, the Iraqi parliament on Wednesday called on prime minister Haider Al Abadi to send troops to the Kurdish-controlled city of Kirkuk to seize control of its oilfields.

Iraqi Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani said on Tuesday that Kurds had voted "yes" to independence in a referendum held in defiance of the government in Baghdad and which had angered their neighbors and their U.S. allies.

The Lockheed Martin Advanced Test High Energy Asset (ATHENA) prototype laser weapon system proved that an advanced system of sensors, software and specialized optics can deliver decisive lethality against unmanned aerial vehicle threats. In tests conducted at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico, ATHENA destroyed five Outlaw unmanned aerial systems in August 2017.
