Here’s a dumb idea that needs to die

You’d never know it, but I make a lot of money on social media. It’s almost entirely responsible for 100% of my sales. How?

Doing a TEDx is on many people’s bucket lists. When I did mine in 2020, I discovered a few things I didn’t expect (or like)...

1. You need to distill your big juicy idea down to 12 minutes or less. Yes, really. Brevity wins at TED. In fact, this was one of the biggest gifts of the experience. It forced me to wrestle with my idea and make it better.

🧠 I didn’t like being forced into brevity. But - it made my talk better. This rule exists for a reason!

2. You can’t sell. Not a shred.

🧠 I didn’t mind this one, but I was surprised at how rigid they (rightfully!) were. It ultimately makes TED a more captivating concept that people want. People hate being sold to. TED is about ideas, not about sales.

3. They want you to memorize your talk. If that’s not how you like to speak, that’s just too bad. You have to.

🧠 I struggled HARD with memorization. I practiced for weeks and weeks and still struggled. I was incredibly stressed because I felt like I was performing and not myself at all. To this day, I don’t like my “performance” because that’s what it was.

H🔥T take about AI… you won’t like this.

AI slop is popular because we love it.

We love being lazy.
We love “optimizing.”
We keep trying to hack winning.
So we keep using it, even when we know it’s not good.

But worst of all…

We love NOT being challenged.
We love NOT being called out on our bu****it.
We love SAYING we love change, but we don’t.
We love being sycophantically told how great we are.

Look, I’m not special.
I’m an early adopter.
But I’m also an early abandoner.

It never fully sounded like me.
To borrow a phrase from the damn robot, it kept “sanding down my edges.”
Except my edges are my edge. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m a messy Christian, politically in the middle, loves guns, hugs trees, and loves a lil salt in her English. There are millions of marketers and advisors. But there’s only one me.

I’m frighteningly good at fixing broken businesses and driving real revenue. In a world of quick fixes and offers that promise the moon but deliver nothing, I’m one of the few experts left who can actually get s**t done. 27 years and counting. 🏆

Is blending in gonna help me do more of it???? No.

So I put AI down.
It’s a helpful assistant.
It needs to stay in its lane.

If you hate AI slop too, do this:

Follow creators who aren’t using AI to speak for them. (Ahem… hi.)

Teach the algorithm you love human-powered content. Comment. Save it. Engage.

Offer an opinion. Ask a question. Push back. Courteously disagree. Show that you’re human too.

Throw your own hot takes out there.
Be spicy. 🌶️ Stop behaving.
Be willing to be embarrassed.

🔥The world changes when we change.🔥

Not sure this was written by a human? Purple monkey dishwasher beep boop squirrel sunshine battery acid. Because that’s why. 6:13 am loving rant.

Comment with heart, you organic-intelligence, meat-suit-wearing, amazing human being. Let’s talk for real.
