We went through a month of our own after-hours call records to see how many emergency maintenance calls at apartment communities are actually emergencies.

About one in three never needed the on-call tech. 27% of callers ended the call once they heard the community's emergency criteria. Another 6% left a message for the office instead.

If your after-hours line calls the tech for everything, every one of those is somebody woken up for something that could have waited until morning.

Activ call data for August 2026: one in three calls reaching the emergency maintenance line ended without calling the on-call technician, and maintenance was 11% of after-hours calls.
