Mom is one of the most precious individuals in the world. We all know of the enduring love, strength, guidance, and sacrifices many have made to grow us into the women or the men we are today. Many have heard the story of Shelley-Ann Fraser-Pryce’s mother, Maxine Simpson, who ran from place to place in the Half Way Tree area to sell her wares just to provide for her daughter. Today Shelly-Ann is one of the most successful and decorated athletes in the world. Where would Shelley-Ann be today without her hardworking mom?

Year after year we ponder how we can repay mom for all the sacrifices made and question what we can give mom for Mother’s Day to show how much we appreciate her for what she did for us no matter her career. To be nostalgic over the years Island Dolls created schoolgirl dolls to remember mom’s schooldays. For 2026, the company has created yet another feature to remember mom and that is Career Mom Dolls. Whether mom is a farmer, policewoman, journalist, teacher, doctor or even helper, Island Dolls has a doll for you. These dolls come in sizes from skinny to curvy, from afro hairstyle, to blonde, and represent Jamaica’s motto - “Out of Many One People”. They are all accessorized, for example, the nurse or doctor has their stethoscope, while the farmer has her basket with fruits and vegetables depicting “Grow what you eat, and eat what you grow”.Each doll comes with an inspirational Mother’s Day card which can be personalized.

CONGRATULATIONS, TO THE HONOURABLE MIA AMOR MOTTLEY, PRIME MINISTER OF BARBADOS on leading your party to an astounding LANDSLIDE/CLEAN SWEEP TRIFECTA.

Prime Minister Mottley, () your tenure has not been easy but through positives and negatives you have led the citizens of Barbados with strength and vitality. Your tireless work has paid dividends to a proactive party. On November 30, 2021, with your leadership you guided Barbados to become a republic thereby removing the late Queen Elizabeth II as the head of state. On the said date, a world icon, The Right Excellent Robyn Rihanna Fenty, () was bestowed with the tittle of National Hero of Barbados for her achievements in music, business and philanthrophic dedication to her beloved home Barbados. Prime Minister Mottley, you have been a true representative not only to Bajans at home and in the diaspora but to the Caribbean community at large. Your win is not only for Barbados but the entire Caribbean I listened carefully to the brilliant and riveting speech you gave at the 49th Heads of Government of CARICOM Conference in Jamaica as the outgoing Chairperson of CARICOM in July 2025. While I did not participate in CARIFESTA which was held in Barbados during August 2025, I watched the Opening Ceremonies and again was enlightened by your presentation as well as your plea to assist those in the Caribbean creative industry. As an exporter to Barbados since 2001 and a recipient of the benefits offered through CARICOM for exporting to the region I share with you that GCS Limited (operating as Ganzee in Barbados) and its subsidiaries in Grenada and St. Lucia is my largest customer in the Caribbean.

Thank you Food for the Poor for partnering with Island Dolls during the Yuletide Season to bring smiles to our children as they received their Christmas gifts of toys and clothes. It was indeed an exciting and entertaining day at Godfrey Stewart High School in Savann-La-Mar, Westmoreland. Our children were devastated from the ravish of Hurricane Melissa but this day brought cheers to our little ones.

STRONGER TOGETHER. JAMAICA WILL RISE AGAIN.
