Private Coaching is not a generic interaction, or it shouldn’t be.

At RAS Group we have our roots in coaching shooting and it will always be my favorite instructor interaction that I can have with students.

That being said, I have decided to restructure how we offer private lessons to individuals of varying skill level. Truth be told, no one gets magically better at shooting with limited guidance and no homework. That’s why we will now be offering custom coaching in 4 varieties:

Bi-weekly
Tri-weekly
Monthly
Bi-monthly

All options are based on a 6 month period and prices vary depending on the frequency a student wishes to participate.

This is designed to get those serious about leveling up the tools and skill set needed to perform better. Whether that means defending your life or crushing matches, it all comes down to the ability to perform on demand.

There’s a lot of subpar instructors in western New York that can provide a one off range experience where you don’t really get any value. I have no interest in doing that. I am in the business of building formidable shooters and nothing less. If this interests you, feel free to reach out for scheduling and details.

Irony.

It’s funny that the year I vow to have more fun with shooting and take it less seriously is the year I start having the most realizations about shooting.

I decided this was the year to try to see as many majors as possible. To see new stages, new props, new shooters. Expand my horizons on what’s out there and take that forward. No expectations of anything, just the experience.

Being fortunate to train with some very high level individuals one thing keeps coming up as a reoccurring theme: the details matter. In everything. Things I use to brush off as inconsequential are now line items of focus. Hell not even 3 years ago I still believed that how you treat a trigger is irrelevant because your grip should always be better. Which, spoiler alert, is a highly inaccurate take.

Not just within the actual shooting of the gun but the things around it too. Learning how to actually find efficiency and sculpt that into the most efficient. It’s a learning process, but I appreciate it. Furthermore, understanding these lessons transcend beyond the game of USPSA.

The ironic part is the year I tried to lesson shooting as a priority I learned not only the most about shooting but there’s some broader life lessons corresponding as well. If you pay close enough attention to things, you learn to grow not only within your discipline but as a human being .

Due to wanting to do other things and the backing of some amazing sponsors I will not be doing nearly as many majors next year, but I’m glad I did it this year. I still have a couple left to go, and I’m looking forward to those all the same. Stay safe and stay trained.

Last call for pistol permit coming up on 8/8-8/9 in a couple weeks!! If you can’t make it don’t worry, there will be more.

However I wanted to remind everyone that we also offer private shooter coaching and lessons for those wanting to see more out of their handgun performance. It’s actually the biggest part of what we do despite not talking about it much. Last call for the June pistol permit class this weekend at Ellicottville Sportsmen's Club . This course is valid for anyone in Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Erie, or Allegany County. Cool stuff coming from Ellicottville Sportsmen's Club

HELP US PLAN - We’re researching if there is interest in a women’s only pistol range session of skills, drills and just open practice time. It could operate on a weekday evening or on a weekend. It might be scheduled weekly or monthly.

I’m happy to announce another successful pistol permit class is in the books at Ellicottville Sportsmen's Club this past weekend. A sold out class that was eager to learn and was a true pleasure to be with for two days. RAS Group courses are always the closest you will get to working while having fun.

We have another course coming up in June for Ellicottville and also our first pistol permit course happening in May at Westfield Fish and Game Club.
