By Marie Veil, Tattoo Artist: Hung out for our second day with Mara, doing her double cover-up.
This is why it is super important to research your artist. Research is so important for so many reasons.
For now we are going to talk about cover up reasons:
Not every artist can or is willing to take on a cover up; much less a cover up to this level. There are so many factors that go into to doing a cover up (design, dark tones, color). Some would say no, some would say blackout, some would say laser removal. Which are all okay answers too; but again why it’s super important to do your research and find an artist that can help match/achieve what you are looking to do based on other work they have done. And at the very least be honest with you and tell you if they legitimately can or even feel confident in the task. Had the second artist Mara seen been more straightforward with her versus trying to cover up the barb wire Ineffectivly I would’ve have had more flexibility in what we did.
Thankfully we both love the design and the outcome. But with that it will definitely need a perfection session a couple months down the road to finish pushing out any old dark ink. (That and I am OCD) 😝
Backstory in case you missed the previous post….. she had the barbwire done somewhere else awhile ago, didn’t like it. Went to someone else to have it covered up. All for that person to not reach back out to her when she inquired about finishing it up. After some recommending she was referred to me. For her sake, I am so glad she ended up with me. What was started for the cover up was not sufficient to effectively cover the first tattoo. Thankfully she liked the idea of tooled leather and was willing to work with me on color for that. Beyond excited to give her the confidence to wear short sleeves and tank tops again.
