We went for a drive today and picked up some great looking tomato and jalapeño plants from The Outcelt Garden west of Thorntown on 47! They are already growing n the ground to finish off our salsa garden!

Our March 22nd sweet corn is looking great and we have eight additional plantings behind it with a few more to go! We are aiming to have our first sweet corn ready right around the 4th of July and hope to have a continuous supply of fresh picked, bi-color sweet corn available through the first week or two of August 👍

The three rows of corn you see in the first picture were planted the same day but the center row was not protected by a plastic covered structure - what a difference they made this year!

Lastly, we have our own honey for sale now! Stop by our roadside stand for a pint - it is $10 a pint jar and we accepted cash or Venmo.

The 2026 sweet corn planting season has begun at Wide Leaf Farms! Last year we put in our first few rows on March 12th and this year we started 10 days later on March 22nd. Soil temps were at 70 degrees at 2 inches when we put the first seed in the ground yesterday 👍
We strive to have the first sweet corn ready in Boone County (targeting the 4th of July) so we have to get started early!

Our winter wheat cover crop is loving this warmer weather as much as we are today!
Last year, we planted our first four rows of sweet corn on March 12th but with cool rainy days in the forecast nearly everyday next week, I am betting we won’t get in quite as early this year!
