It’s almost May Day! 🎉 What is May Day? May 1 (May Day) is a traditional holiday celebrating spring AND International Worker’s Day. This year, May Day organizers are calling for a national general strike in the US. This is a BIG deal. NO work, NO shopping, NO school. We’re protesting for universal free healthcare, higher education, a fair minimum wage for all Americans and a government that invests in the working class. We’ll be closed on Friday, and we kindly ask that customers refrain from paying online invoices that day to support our economic protest.
In celebration of this effort, we are offering 3 promotions:
1. Import tariff-free shopping on new orders until Thursday night on in-stock spring-shipped products from our Misc. Spring Bulbs, Spring Herbaceous Roots, Spring Liners, Lilies, and Roses - there are a lot of products included!
2. 30% off the products listed above until Sunday night. (New orders only)
3. A NEW collection. FLOWERING SHRUBS. We are placing a group custom order. This is a special order and will not include extra stock to order from later, so if you’d like some, be sure to jump in order before Sunday night. Lilacs, Spirea, Viburnum, hydrangea, forsythia, Mockorange, Serviceberry, Ninebark. 😍

Let us know if you have any questions. We are business to business, only. Supporting US flower farms, research institutions, and botanical gardens, etc.

They declared, “No taxation without representation!” And when they designed the three branches of government, the founders made sure that Congress controlled the budget and money. We’re sick and tired of Trump slapping illegal import taxes on the international goods Americans use. We’re sick and tired of passing those tariff fees down to the farmers we serve. We’re sick and tired of this greedy, corrupt administration using billions raised from import tariffs that we all pay to fund tax breaks for the rich and exorbitant spending on militaristic oppression of the people.

We’re not going to give up barking about it until we see change. We hope you’ll tell your reps. how you feel, too.

Over $100,000.00. That’s how much we had to bill our farmer customers for this fall to pay the import tariffs this administration imposed on their flower bulbs. These are raw materials used to grow flowers for US florists and retail buyers who prefer locally grown flowers over imported ones. What does that mean for some growers? It means giving up and turning to other income streams if they can’t re coup that tariff money themselves from their own customers fast enough. We have already seen some of that this year. And then what happens? More imports come in. But instead of bulbs and seeds and roots, they’ll be the higher priced import: finished cut flowers. Cut flowers generate more money per unit in import tariffs than flower bulbs (they also have a much larger carbon footprint). It’s more profitable for this administration to eliminate American grown cut flowers from imported bulbs and tax the imported flowers that come in to replace them. And we’re sorry to say that seems to be exactly where they’re headed. We’re encouraged to see the Supreme Court pushing back on the tariffs this week. We’re also encouraged to hear that flower bulbs are on a list of raw materials that should be deemed exempt from import tariffs- when that agreement will be signed and implemented, we do not know. What we do know is that we are very proud to be working for and serving American flower farmers. Your grit and determination in this moment are a testament to the strength you’ve built through years of cultivating beds, pushing rocks out of your fields, running to cover and uncover plants to protect them from the elements. Your collective endurance is admirable and it feeds our energy stores now, too, as we work to get this fall’s bulbs out to you as fast as we possibly can. We’ve only ever wanted to help make your work easier. And that’s what we’ll continue to do to the best of our ability. Much love to all the plant and flower growers, nurturers, lovers out there. 🩷🌷
