I took a little break to work on some big projects at home. I’m almost done and ready to get started back up. Let me know if you have an estate in need of a clean out and sale.
If you’re interested in how the process works with hiring me, this is how it usually works.
Once everyone has moved out of the house and taken what they want, that’s when I come in.
I have 2 different percentages.
30% I sell as much as possible and then the family takes care of what’s left.
50% I sell as much as possible and I take care of everything left in the house. The house will be completely empty when I’m done.
I can also take care of scheduling a move out clean, and I work with the realtors schedule.
Some estates will need 1 sale some need 4 sales. I auction 60-100 lots per sale. As I organize the sales and photograph everything, I send the pictures to the family for approval before posting. Sometimes the family will want to pull an item off the sale. Also I check to see if they would like to set the minimum bid on some items. Sometimes family members don’t want an item to sell unless they are guaranteed to get a certain amount for that item. I box up everything as I photograph it and usually set it in the garage if there is one. I get up at 4am on Sundays to put the auction together online. It usually takes 2 hours so I have to do while people are sleeping. The auction goes from Sunday until Friday at 3:00. Friday from 3-4 I send out instructions to all the bid winners. Those are the only people that get the estate address. I never give out the names of an estate. Pick up is Saturday from 9-11 usually in the garage. I schedule some people at 8 or 8:30 if they have big items in the house that I need to watch over as they move out. During pick up customers are able to shop an in person sale which usually consists of a couple tables with everything on them being $1. This helps move out the items that didn’t make it on the auction. I also create $5 boxes with holiday decor and such.
I like to protect my reputation and yours so I do my best to make sure everything is very clean and works well before selling. There is a high possibility that I will be using the dishwasher and washing machine while preparing items for sale. This is actually of my favorite thing to do along with photo editing. It’s important to me that everything photographs well to ensure the best possible outcome for your sale.
I give you updates along the way so you know how sales are doing. It’s really helpful if family members share the auction on their page. When the sales are all over I pay you in cash minus my percentage.
* Books don’t usually sell well so I donate them to a veterans organization.
* I’m not comfortable with selling jewelry, I have a buyer that takes of all that.
* I don’t auction clothes, occasionally a Carhartt coat or something like that. It usually all gets donated.
